I guess you prefer more realistic sci fi. No but seriously the forerunner story is complex yet not convoluted and keeps the haloverse far from generic. I loved how cryptum had this theme of exploration. -blam!- it to me it's far more interesting than the human covenant war with the simple us fighting for survival against aliens kind of story which is used over and over.
