Working at Bungie

Who wants to work at Bungie? And if so, what do you want to do there and why? Also people who work at Bungie (if you're reading this) what's it like? I'm 14 and I already know what I want to do with my life. I want to be a programmer at Bungie. They have inspired me so much and I just want to say, Thanks Bungie, you guys are great!

  • I never expected that I would end up at Bungie. I was always interested in web development and did it for fun, all through high school and college. I didn't even study web development in college, it was just a hobby that I kept feeding and cultivating, and kept getting better at it that way. It's really important, if you want to do well in a field, to do more than just the minimum - you should be having fun with it in your free time, too. For me, that really paid off. Everything I taught myself and learned through trial and error helped me get a job right out of college, and 18 months later, Bungie hired me. It's a fantastic job, and I have fun every single day. I know I'm working on something important; I know I'm directly influencing things and making things that millions of people will see and experience and love. It's a great goal to have! If you're looking for more info about breaking into the industry, you should check out the Breaking In articles we post. Here's mine!

    • Working at Bungie would be fun for a couple months but I'm happy with being in the US marines.

    • I am in school for biomedical engineering. If I worked for Bungie I would help if a computer needed fixed or a piece of equipment broke. Plus I love playing video games. That would be an amazing dream job.

      • I'm glad that you said you want to be a programmer OP. Most posts on here have people saying they want to be "creative writers". That's exactly what I wanted to do, but honestly, anyone can say they want to be a creative writer. I studied writing, wrote amazing things. i thought that would land me a job, but its SO hard to get a job writing for a game company, you need to already have a lot of experience, but in the end if you have a lot of programming experience you are more likely to get hired. That is my personal opinion. I see 10 guys wanting to do creative writing to every 1 guy wanting to sit down and write code. I am teaching myself how to program, about to release my first app for iPhone, and hopefully starting a small game company soon. Bungie inspired me to start making things happen in my life. So in a few years after you've learned to program, if you look back at this thread for some reason.. Remember that I am looking for programmers as well, if you need a good starting point in your career. Good luck!! :) Ps: if you need any tips on where to start on how to program just send me a message

        • I wouldn't mind being a writer for the team. Of course, after some experience and college.

        • The Breaking In articles have done a lot to get me interested in working at Bungie. However, programming is my passion and there weren't any entry level programming jobs when I last checked.

        • I'm looking at the technical and raid designer positions. I have tons of ideas for encounters, bosses, dungeons, and I love coding so they seem like great positions. My art skills suck tho.

        • If I work at Bungie, I'd be working closely with the level designer team creating variety of assets and props for building the levels, one detail at a time. Not only that, I'd be able to playtest the game and carefully examine every possible "Griefings" and exploit holes in the game. Oh and I have not mention that they have Jermone? the truthful and powerful guardian of the fortress. He's awesome :)

        • For me, working at Bungie would be a dream. I'm 16 and I have been working on two separate series of games for the better part of 2 years. I am skilled in creating stories and am already writing a book. Ambitious for a 16 year old I know. I would like to be a game designer at a studio and bungie is my top choice.

        • I think this site does have a quite alot of people who would like to work there, we are all Bungie fans after all. I'm hoping I could land a job as a concept artist there one day, that would be pretty awesome.

        •
I'm 14 and I already know what I want to do with my life. I want to be a programmer at Bungie.
Great goal but do not limit yourself man! Keep in mind you will probably have to work for other companies before bungie because they are a top tier company. After college do not apply at JUST Bungie and keep waiting. Go get experience, then maybe you can land that Holy Grail of jobs!

          • Not to squash your dreams ... Im sure you like the IDEA of working at Bungie, but the gaming industry is extremely cutthroat. I don't know how much tie you spend around a computer, but you will need to LOVE spending a lot of time with computers. You will need to be the best at what you do and get lucky enough to find a developer with a high reputation to say "I work at insert game dev here." Remember to stay far away from anything funded by EA.
