Destiny UI & HUD - What Would You Like To See?

I really enjoyed Bungie's past user interface design in the Halo games that they developed, in my opinion, I think Bungie has had some of the best menus, game lobbies and HUD's out of the all the games that I have played. I hope Destiny is no exception, but it is hard to get that perfect mix of functionality and pleasing aesthetics. Look at Halo 4 for example, I find the lobbies and menus are pretty nice looking, but they don't offer easy maneuverability. Then with the in game HUD, I find it's way too crowded for my liking; I can't stand the way they have a bunch of arrows pointing to guns on the map and grenade warnings, etc. From what we've seen so far, I really like the HUD in Destiny. My only suggestion would be maybe some changes to the players or enemy name-tags. Right now it seems like each players numbered rank is what you will first notice when looking at your comrades. I'd like to use the name tags as a way to really differentiate team mates by including each players customization. I'd really like to see player emblems and own custom colours above their heads, much like Halo 2 multiplayer. Also the return of full Gamertags not being displayed until you look in the general direction of the player could be nice to have less letters cluttering your screen. Above I posted a few of different ideas for in game name-tags, feel free to photoshop some user interfaces yourself!

the hudso far isnt bad, though Id apreciat a heath, slash shield bar of soem kind, taking up minimal screen presence, I do love the minimulism of the present HUD interface shown at E3, though it could use soem tweaks to maby make it look fancyer, say liek the abilitys, not being in squars but with a falf circulatr bar around them indicatign mana or charge time, and have the other icon in the forground till you swap abilities much liek the weapons, removign the square buttin look As for the UI I realy hope they take an revamp there menue system from Reach, I loved the simplicity and ease no flashes just calm sliding motions, were you could go into a menue by eather pressign the A/X buttin as normal, or just press sideways on your joystick and flip to it. I only say this cause we havent seemn other parts of the menu, posable maps, the full invitory screen, missions log and such. Otherwise whith what menue weve seen. I liek the open feel of it like skyrim problem is it leaves you vanurable beign It's an online game going into yoru backpack would be suicidal if the menues that large! ID say eather a opecue menue would help so yo ucan see behind it or one that dosent take full screen. Id allso apreciat less RPG standered picture Icons, that show more of the weapon or armor, instead of a partial drawn image, perhaps yoru caracter standign beside the screen so you can look at yourself with current equipment, would be most ideal. As for Hud asociated with friend and foe, I liek the curent for friendly Icons, like you said they could use allitle more to show more Identity of players around you. now enemy heath and tags, are rediculus, I feel they are just whats in right now to put it together for E3, in my eyes maby above there heads maby a small color indicatior, red, orange, yellow showing there heath level as full, damaged, or low- then have your curent target that your your reticul is over, or youve shot at, causeign them to be your target, should have a full heath bar indicated soem were on yoru HUD, thus making it minimilistic, VS E3s showing which took up to much of the forground. finaly droped Items this fits more under Gamplay/UI but I feel that these orbs, are a poor disighn for drops though they minimalize frame rate ishues and such by being simple place takers, I enjoy my loot actualy beign droped if armor was droped, a physical piece of armor, gun a weapon, all falowing physics. its far more rewardign then a mystery weapon or armor orb, however the orb desighn would be good for experience/money indication.

  • 1 gun icon and ammo (changes when you swap gun) the ability cooldowns icons aren't bad I would like the radar somewhere else but it's not game breaking hopefully health shows up somewhere...if enemy health is displayed why isn't ours? all the numbers and stuff when you see other guardians is kinda distracting as well as enemy health but...I see the point in placing enemy health, maybe if it could be done cleaner...perhaps..whatever enemy you attack their health pops up on your hud top mid or something...instead of seeing a buncha healthbars constantly. I think it would be more awesome to view player profiles if you want to see the level and gear or stats of another guardian. for example....some random guy joins in your team..and starts totally kill frenzing everthing that moves...and you're like holy sh*t...who the hell is this guy? so you look his player profile up and say to yourself DAYUM and thus begins a conversation of how the hell did you get all that sh*t and player social aspect gets strengthened in a community based game. The game turns into, let me show you how I began my conquest my friend, and let's turn over some fallen captain crypts together to find some rare @ss sh*t

  • Something simple, clean, and angular. Complex but not over-done. Easily readable but not boring. Crisp but not jagged. I guess this is just personal preference, so maybe there could be a selection of HUDS of different shapes, sizes, colors and themes (compare a spartan's HUD to an elite's HUD in Halo:Reach) for another dimension of in-game personalization and accessibility. You likey or you no likey?

    • Less is more, I don't need to see a bunch of symbols or xXxbeast39832 as a name, please, no. The way it is now is fine with me, it will probably be altered slightly from this at launch, but it's great so far. Pretty sure you already know, but you mentioned halo 4, the name that shall not be spoken on this forum.

    • I think part of the reason they had the numbers so prominent in the demo was to show two things. The large number of people in the public event That people of different levels can play together and still have a good time. I'm sure there will be a hide option.

    • For me it's not what I want to see, but what I don't want to see. I'd like the option to hide all names, etc. unless the person/enemy is aimed at. Immersion is huge for me and half the screen covered in names kills that.
