What is the Vanguard?
There's been a lot of speculation about the "Vanguard" being a playable class in destiny that has yet to be revealed. Bungie has confirmed this to be False and that there are only 3 playable classes as of right now, but no one has been given a solid answer to the question. "What is the Vanguard?" I have my own theories but i'd like to hear from others to see if we can get a good idea of what it is.

I think the vanguard is the world builders at bungie. At the e3 demo, you see the public event notification with the vanguard symbol. As Destiny is always online, it is possible for bungie to continuously distribute new content in the form of these public events. Vanguard just signifies when you've come across something new that bungie distributed.

3 RepliesThe Vanguard is us: the players. Think about it: who will be at the forefront of rediscovering and reclaiming our lost legacy? The players. Who will be uncovering info about the Cabal & Vex? The players. I think people are reading too much into this whole "Vanguard" thing.

Maybe a vanguard is someone who reaches max level on all focuses for a class. Bungie said there's a max level of 20 for each focus, but in a vidoc we saw a Titan who was level 21 using a bubble shield. Maybe that's a vanguard?

More console channel on YouTube has said that Bungie has stated that the Vanguard is something we can become.

The players are the Vanguard. They're gonna be out there in the wild, doing the exploring, reporting on enemy positions, conducting raids & strikes against enemy positions. We have met the Vanguard, and they are us.

Whatever Vanguard is, it definitely exists. There's a vanguard shirt in the bungie store.

rather than talk it to death again lets face the music. there is no new information on them and we likely wont find the answer by bickering bout it yet again. this is just one of those things where you have to sit it out. but to put my own two cents on , bungie's own destiny page says : awaiting reports from the vanguard , which suggest an advanced recon unit that scouts ahead of the cities forces....

Definition of VANGUARD 1: the troops moving at the head of an army 2: the forefront of an action or movement That is from the Websters Dictionary. Scouts, Recon units, Special Operation Units and Recon Drones or Satellites. I would elaborate further but i think bungie might surprise us.

I think that factions aren't join able per-say but they are just groups you can align yourself with based on their style, motives, and principles. I think that all guardians are part of one faction... The Vanguard

9 RepliesThe Vanguard is Bungie guys. They were wearing vanguard shirts at E3 so even if there is a vanguard class Bungie will be the only one to play as them. But Vanguard = Bungie

1 ReplyI'm guessing as a guardian you will be limited the earth. Until you progress in the story far enough to get a ship capable of space travel. After that you begin to reclaim the solar system. Guardians protect the city. Vanguards protect and reclaim the solar system. Not a class race or faction. That's my guess.
