Player Controlled Economy. Yay or nay?

A big part of open world games is the economy in them, while I think we can all agree that Pay2Win is a bad feature, what about spending in-game currency on player acquired items. Such as an auction house, or maybe you can rent out a shop space with in-game currency so there is not always a guarantee that you will make a profit, forcing players to be more reasonable with their prices. Some people would prefer an AI run economy or no buying of items at all, but I think it's a needed feature. Agree or disagree?

  • Player-to-player trading could be good, so I can show my friend how amazing that new gun I just found in an ancient moon base is. But I don't really like trading on a mass scale, as it is generally in MMOs which have lots of miscellaneous items. In an economy featuring only guns, I don't think it would work. Legendary weapons should be earned, not bought. Blowing an alien to pieces with a weapon you just spent 2 hours fighting through a horde of aliens to get is infinitely more satisfying than doing it with a gun you just payed 70000 glimmer for.

I don't like those auction house economies but player trading would be the cat's meow.

    • It would work well if they had money sinks, where you put money into something made by bungie themselves, then that money is gone and not transferred at all-help combat inflation a little bit. Allow selling of weapons just not legendaries, that way if you want a new gun and can afford it-you can still get it but if you don't want to spend some of your glimmer on it then you can go and find one.

    • No, because then you get scammers and farmers that all they do is kill for cash

    • fully disagree , such features will complicate the games , and less time will be spent on action and exploring , and more on making a profit and one uping people

      • The fact that Bungie looks for Economy Designer is a good sign that the economy system will be controlled by Bungie.

        • If its done right, it can be a great idea. Take an example from the MMORPG Runescape's Grand Exchange. It works as a market that you could leave something there for sale, and you can set the price. This system uses the average prices paid for this item during the last month, and then you can raise or lower the price from there. You could leave the item for sale there, and if someone comes along later looking for that item in the market, and if they are willing to pay the asking price, then your item is sold. I am in no way saying this is a perfect system, but this is a system that works. It has it's flaws, but it has some innovative ideas as well.

        • It's a great feature if it's done right. Bungie would have to create a good system to counter the Inflation or the entire economy system would fall and be abused.

        • I have no problem with a player controlled auction house, but there is one catch. I hope Bungie (AH or Not) doesn't artificially shrink the drop rate of the high end items. If the game truly isn't an MMO then it shouldn't take you a month of Sundays to acquire the items you seek through raiding. If legendary/epic items don't have a tremendously slow drop rate then AH being player controlled wont matter since it would be only slightly less convenient to go grab your own. This form of AH/economy could actually be beneficial for alternate characters because you can just buy equipment great for your level and move on.

            • Not really, it would be chaos if some dastardly evil player got hold of a position which influenced the whole playing experience and abused it like a little kid

            • Overpowered weapons just make the game unplayable so drop them and the auction house goes with them.

            • It can not be player only. There needs to be some over seeing group of people that can fix and adjust things as Destiny grows. If not people will find exploits or just ruin it.

Why do you guys disagree? If time is put into it bungie can make it so abusing the system is very difficult.

              • The economy needs to be a hybrid economy, just like the real world. A hybrid economy is an economy that although there is a clientele that buys product, the market itself is controlled by those who sell the items, and the tolerance of the overall market. Like Oil, although the cost is 80 to 100 per 50 gallon drum, the people will tolerate only a gradual increase, and not a major increase. At the same time the companies will not tolerate a massive decrease as well. So we lets see what happens. Honestly I think the market should be player controlled, but at the same time, the market will have the right to correct itself if required.
