Because bungie fanbois are nerds ... even bungie had re-release the original books when they wrote Reach ... but that was considered just fine - lol.

 • That was actually 343i who re-released the books, not Bungie. The only things Halo related that Bungie did after Reach came out was tweaking playlists and gametypes and such in Reach, and that was it.

 • Wrong ... original book was published in 2001 - well before bungie started developing the game. The book then had to be re-released after bungie dropped a rather large shit on the storyline. But I guess YOU would have us believe 343 have been in control ever since 2001 - lol

 • That is still grossly incorrect, Bungie first came up with Halo and began making designs on it all the way back in 1998 before Microsoft even bought them, Read this and read this. 343i were the ones who did all the re-releases of the books. This is a picture of the front and back cover for the 2010 re-issue/re-print of TFoR here, read it carefully, you will not see a word about Bungie on there, they were done by that point, 343i were the ones managing Halo. As a matter of fact, aside from ODST and Reach, they've been doing everything Halo related since 2007 and after Halo 3 came out.

 •
grossly incorrect
Facts; 1) original books release in 2001 2) bungie (not 343) wrote the game called Reach (which did NOT follow the canon) 3) bungie knew they would be breaking canon, but didn't care. To try and put this on 343 is just laughable ... honestly, in what way did 343 write Reach?

 • -__- Dude, seriously? Go back and re-read my posts, not once did I say anything about 343i making Reach, where did you even get that from? I didn't even say anything remotely similar that could even be taken or misunderstood that way. First you said that Bungie re-released all of the books, which I corrected because it was wrong and misinformation. Then you said TFoR was written before Bungie had thought up or started working on Halo: Combat Evolved, which was also flat-out wrong. Nowhere did I say that 343i made Reach, all 343i did was re-release TFoR, the Flood, and First Strike. Maybe Reach played a part in 343i wanting to re-release the books, I don't know as I'm not on their development team, but they needed to be re-issued to begin with anyway as more than a few details in them were already incorrect. Your assumption that Bungie didn't give a rat's ass about canon is also something that is blatantly false as well. They gave very clear explanations for everything. Noble Team was explained on the site before the game came out as well as in Halsey's Journal and a host of other things pertaining to the game. There is a huge difference between a ret-con and breaking canon. A ret-con you actually explain or give solutions to what you changed so that things still fit together, depending on the size of the retcon, something as small as when a species within the Covenant was first fought doesn't need any explaining, you just say "no, that's wrong, these guys have been around since the beginning of the war". If you're just interested in breaking canon or don't care about canon, you don't offer up any explanations at all and just continue on your merry way telling your story and continuing to change whatever you want to as the mood strikes you. Which did not happen with Reach. We actually got explanations for everything that needed explaining.

 •
Go back and re-read my posts, not once did I say anything about 343i making Reach, where did you even get that from
You implied that it was somehow 343's fault .. by saying "343i were the ones managing Halo" you are correct but omit the simple fact that by this time the damage was done. Simple timetime is; 1) 2001 original Reach books released (Eric Nylund); 2) 2006 Reach the game started (Marcus Lehto, Art and the Creative Director in 2007), 3) July 2007 343 is registered in preparation for the bungie split 4) Oct 2007 bungie split announced (but continues with Reach under contract) Damage was done ... the plans for Reach and it breaking of 5 year old canon was all under bungies control. Blame 343 for Halo 5 but bungie created Reach.

 •
As a matter of fact, aside from ODST and Reach, they've been doing everything Halo related since 2007 and after Halo 3 came out.
Which is wierd since Ensemble Studios went to Bungie for Halo Lore questions, and Bungie managed the Halo 3 playlists and DLC.

 • That's what I seem to remember >_> I dunno, in any case, I was pointing out to Oh GodLike One that it wasn't Bungie re-releasing the books. In all honesty I didn't really pay too much attention to the re-releases as I'd already read the books and some of the ones being re-issued were ones I owned already.
