The Eye is optional. The Kinect is not. Deny it all you want, but that makes a world of difference.

Because it matters so much if people judge you for talking to your television...
-
I'm not scared of people judging me. I just don't think the ability to talk to my console is a compelling reason to buy one. As far as I'm concerned, having to clearly speak a few distinct commands is more hassle than pressing a button on a wireless remote. Even if I could speak super casually to the console and the voice recognition was super good, I don't see how it's that big of an advantage. It gives great demo, but in a real-world setting, I think it's just going to be a gimmick feature.
-
That's not why I don't want it. I don't want it because it adds $100 to the cost when I don't deem the Kinect as essential. I'd rather it was an option.
-
What's more than that, neither the Eye or the Kinect are really essential to gameplay. They're optional attachments that can provide features that can be useful for some games but not others. This, I think, is the single biggest problem of the Xbox One: they made Kinect mandatory for the console to function, jacking up the price of the machine in the process... and then abandoned it as a feature! This was their chance to prove to us Kinect would be an intergal part of the experience you get out of X1 exclusives like RYSE, Titanfall, Spark, Froza 5, the next Halo game, and Below... but NONE of those games use Kinect at all. Basically, the Kinect is just something that's going to weigh the Xbox One down... it's a deadweight that you have to purchase but will never use for a lot of games, even ones exclusive to the console. Bad move on their part.

Edited by VIC: 6/11/2013 5:02:40 PMSpark was responding to voice commands, if I recall correctly. It was subtle but it was there. I actually wouldn't mind Kinect integration if it was done in a tasteful way that improved on an already existing game experience, rather than being a gimmick that games are centered around. I'm not taking sides on console warz bullshit, just pointing it out and offering my two cents.
I actually wouldn't mind Kinect integration if it was done in a tasteful way that improved on an already existing game experience, rather than being a gimmick that games are centered around.
Completely agree 100%. This is exactly the point I've been trying to make in this thread.

Last year " we don't want to see kinect games at E3 we don't care about them" This year "Why are there no kinect games?" Seriously gamers are retarded
-
Edited by KingInTheNorth: 6/12/2013 5:41:55 AMI have never heard or read anyone saying that they want more Kinect games. The only thing I've only ever read or heard is "Kinect is terrible and I don't want it in my games."
-
... Really nobody is saying they wanted more Kinect games.

That's because the Kinect for the 360 is not a great piece of hardware. It can't detect people very well, and there aren't a lot of good games out for it that utilize the hardware really well. But the Xbox One is different. It's Kinect is a MAJOR feature of the console, not something that's tacked on late in the console's life. The new Kinect is supposed to be much more advance, more accurate, and more capable than the current device for 360. In other words, they present the Xbox One like they're going all-out with the Kinect this time around... but then they don't follow up on it with very many games that use it in ways more unique than anything the current Kinect does. Where is a GOOD version of Steel Battalion on Xbox One? Where is a motion-sensing fighting game? Where is a game that uses even voice commands and voice recognition? Without any of those things, the Kinect on Xbox One is going to be just as unappealing to core gamers as the Kinect for Xbox 360 is today... except this time, we're being FORCED to buy it along with the console, and the console won't work without it. Gamers aren't retarded, Microsoft is retarded.

Microsoft said they listened and decided to ignore the kinect games for the type of games people wanted, I don't see a problem with that since I can just imagine people complaining about "crappy kinect games"
Ryse seems to be the best example of this. It was reported to be a kinect game last year, but now it seems you use the controller.

And that's exactly why I was completely underwhelmed by their presentation. It looked like it could have been a much more fun game with Kinect. But now, it's just another generic action game. :(
-
It's a neat piece of technology but there has yet to be a game that fits it just right.
