Auction House

Would you want a type of Auction House in Destiny? Personally for me, no. After seeing what it did to Diablo, I really don't want any type of Auction House. An open market place where people can interact and sell their items and loot is much better in my opinion.

I would like to see a Grand Exchange like they have in Runescape. It's an interesting virtual representation of the real-world stock market.

    • I would love one, if it didn't involve real world currencies like in Diablo. It was a good idea in theory, but it was abused in that game. GE from RS (or at least a much better one) would be good.

          • Mixed feelings on an AH. Gold spammers and hacked accounts are a big downside. Being able to sell things I don't need to make money to buy things I do need is certainly a plus.

No Auction House for me, thx. A trading system for sure, but not an auction house; the open market place idea has also been my hope for a while though. I think if you're absolutely desperate for a piece of gear you should go hunting for it. It's more fun that way in my opinion.

              • Yes, yes and more yes....i dont wanna have to take 5 minutes to type out a WTS whatever weapon 10 times in chat... Its much much more efficient to put it up for auction and be able to go and get shit done than stand there for 45 minutes trying to sell something.

I don't think Diablo's downfall was its AH, but the total lack of "endgame" content. There was nothing to do once you were geared up except run the same content endlessly (and it was literally identical each time-almost nothing changed game to game).* The AH accelerated the problem and made it painfully obvious to players because everyone got to the end game faster through buying gear. AH or not, the problem was always there, and would have ultimately motivated me to stop playing; it just happened faster. The lesson for me is that the content you play end game really has to give you a reward beyond gear. Community badges, titles, collectibles, and other rewards keep players playing once they get the set-up they want. I loved the "skull" system in Reach, and the daily challenges were enjoyable scenarios that kept me playing and improving. It also kept me playin for the pleasure of playing and overcoming a challenge. In games with items (like Destiny and Diablo), we still need challenges and rewards that don't revolve exclusively around better items. *Also, no skill trees were a problem. But that's for another post...

                  • I'd much rather see an Auction House. Easier for the folks that don't play on regular hours to still have access to better stuff. If it were me, I'd go MMO style and put the vendors and auction house an storage all in the relative same location. Make it look like a busy ass bazaar, with Npcs's running around doing their thing, too.

                    • The market area isn't a bad idea, but I kind of like the Auction House more. It does lead to economic issues, but the marketplace is just... Hard to pull off. Maybe I'm just ancient, but did anyone here play Everquest 1? People sold through chat, and messages were flying by so quickly you couldn't even read a line before it left the chat box. In other words, I'm Pro-Auction House, but only if executed correctly. Rift wasn't a huge success, but their auction system rocked. Auctioning was expensive. It made people want to sell by chat, so you found a strong balance of both, and if fees got inflated, you had to pay more gold if you posted something for more. I would love to see a strong, rigid, self-sustaining economy like that, that has emphasis on both types of sale.
