I'm currently reading Christopher Tolkien/JRR Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". It's actually pretty interesting, although the names and places get excessive. One story in particular; the Akalabeth is very good, I thought it was a good description of the downfall of Numenor. Overall, the book is necessary to get a good understanding of the back story for the Lord of the Rings.
