I think showing the number of likes would be cool but not necessarily the names.
I can understand why they may not want to show the numbers of likes (or dislikes for that matter). Think about it. If one sees something with a handful of likes (or dislikes), they may be more inclined to "pile on" and vote with the mob mentality. I can personally say that sometimes I've seen comments on Reddit where I'll upvote or downvote only to undo my action because I caught myself just piling on.
It's not inherently a bad thing; I'm just pointing out why it may not be the best idea.
Also, I know you didn't mention dislikes, Z, I just thought it was worth including them for discussion's sake.
