What's the best free antivirus software?

Just wondering, as I'm super cautious, so which is the best?

  • Avast! and AVG 2013. And Microsoft Security Essentials. I've used all three, and I don't really care too much about which one's better, as they're all suitable to me. My true champion, my defender of my personal computer, however, is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. If nothing else, you need that. For me it's more of a question of removing malware once it's inside than preventing it altogether.

  • Microsoft security essentials is a nice starting point Avast and Mcafee are good and add some more depth to Microsoft security essentials Although Norton 360 is the 'cream de la cream". It basically is a massive pack of features that you can do anything with. Its very comprehensive and complicated making it very daunting but usually you don't go to deep into that. Unfortunately it's a paid subscription service, but the price (bout $20 Auz for 1 year) is affordable

    • I like Avast, but I think McAfee is also nice.

    • I've used Norton, McAfee, MSE, MalwareBytes, and some others I don't remember the name of (possibly Kaspersky). I can quite easily say that unless you're downloading files which originate from an untrustworthy source, such as those you connect to with P2P applications, any antivirus software will work. In fact, it seems likely that the people who complain about x antivirus not working are the same people who use these kinds of applications and end up getting infected.
