This is news to me that Conservatives are trying to destroy the Postal Service. I would like to see the source for that. But anyway, I think that the Postal Service should remain something that is subsidized, but I also think that it should be able to make money just like every other business out there. The Postal Service lost 11.6 billion dollars in the first 3 quarters of 2012. That's just unacceptable. I don't know where all of the waste is going, but it needs to be fixed.

  • The reason that the Postal Service is suffering is because of the Internet. No one sends letters anymore. No one pays their bills with insecure snail mail, and if you need to ship something you have UPS or FedEx. No one uses USPS, and both FedEx and UPS outperform them. I hate shipping with USPS. No one is trying to destroy the postal service. It's just a service no one uses anymore. Why spend the money on the postal service if no one uses it?

  • It is a semi-government agency that has been allowed to be very mismanaged. The idea is you set something up to fail by not looking things over and giving proper oversight, then you walk in and act surprised and then slash it. If it had been properly managed, the USPS could be as efficient as UPS or FedEx.

  • That doesn't change the fact that despite being poorly managed, and essentially a forced monopoly on postal service, people are finding a way to leave it. Hell, we can even pay out water bill to the city online now. Why waste the money on stamps, which continue to grow more and more expensive?

  • I'm not going to argue changing times, you are correct. Its the competition it is losing with UPS and FedEx. It could have been properly managed and could have competed with them effectively. The fact that it didn't shows me it was intentionally set up to fail. The managers should have been replaced the second they showed the inefficiencies they had. The USPS should be protected, as its a social venture, not a private one.
