House Republicans: No Budget, No Pay

Source
"The first step to fixing this problem is to pass a budget that reduces spending. The House has done so and will again. The Democratic Senate has not passed a budget in almost four years, which is unfair to hardworking taxpayers who expect more from their representatives. That ends this year," Cantor said in a statement from the House Republican retreat here on Friday. "We must pay our bills and responsibly budget for our future. Next week, we will authorize a three-month temporary debt limit increase to give the Senate and House time to pass a budget. Furthermore, if the Senate or House fails to pass a budget in that time, members of Congress will not be paid by the American people for failing to do their job. No budget, no pay."
For once, a decent PR move by Republicans to improve their image in the eyes of the American people. Probably should have thought of that one sooner. Your thoughts? Do you think this challenge will work, or do you think we'll end up dancing around the issue until the last minute like we did with the expiring tax cuts just a few weeks ago?

More political games. The GOP wouldn't even dare try the debt ceiling issue again, last time they made a big ruckus about it, they almost pushed America into default and that political fighting led to S&P downgrading the United States credit rating. Play your political games elsewhere Congress, the debt ceiling is not a joke, and if you have a problem with spending, pursue economic deals as opposed to stupidly trying to hold back the debt ceiling. The debt ceiling has to rise either way, whether you like it or not. Otherwise you would come under the term of "economic terrorist", if you think that holding back the debt ceiling and keeping the country hostage is any way to conduct policy debate.

    • It doesn't make any sense. The current problem is the debt, a problem we can address very soon after addressing that is what the Republicans want to address now, which is the spending problem. It's an asinine way to fix the current issue.

    • If they actually live up to this promise, this will get really interesting.

    • Why the hell would the Senate accept this bill? They haven't made a budget in three years. This bill would only kill their income.

    • American politics seem too partisan right now for any real progress to be made in any scenario which requires cooperation.

    • The republicans don't have to worry about being payed, they are already millionaires.... In a more serious sense, I don't think anyone in senate or congress should ever be payed. I think that their services to this country should be strictly voluntary, and that there really shouldn't be any perks to being a senator or congressmen/woman. I guess that would open doors for them to take mega bribes from corporations and other people with their own agenda though. I guess my idea needs some more work.
