I feel that I am constantly being discriminated against, not because of my race, gender, or lifestyle, but because of my education. I do not have a college degree..
Having been unemployed for almost half a decade now, it frustrates me every time I see something like..
Minimum Qualifications: Education & Experience: A degree in a related field from an accredited college or university plus two years of programming and SQL query experience.
This snippet was taken from a Craigslist ad.
Even if I sent in my resume to this institution, the first thing they would look for is my academic background, and then pass it off because there is nothing thats been completed. Even though for over the past decade I've work and learned all I could about the field.
The only saving grace is when I see that a qualification for a job includes, "or related experience.", and at least then there is a sense of hope. (But then they see I've owned my own business and throw it out then..)
If you have been to college and obtained a degree, has that degree opened doors that you feel would have been shut otherwise?
I have tried going back to college to get an AA, but the class work is too easy, and they all look like children to me now.
I don't know, is this really discrimination?
