This is the Halo: Reach assault rifle, I can load up the Halo Wiki and learn all the trivial information I want about it;
-It's full name is the MA37 Individual Combat Weapon System
-It was created by Misriah Armory and mass-produced at their Rajtom Facility on Reach
-It's a favorite of the UNSC Army, Marine Corps and Navy. First entered service in 2437 and is still used over a century later
-It saw extensive use during Human-Covenant War, including the Fall of Reach and the Battle of Mombasa
You can't do that for the guns in Destiny. Can't look at something like Shadow Price and go "oh its a Nadir Throngler P1s with the Vanguards logo plastered on it. Its a popular weapon among the Last City's Guardians and it was made in one of Nadirs factories on the outskirts of the City."
Best I can do is say it was made in the Last City and Toland had one of these at one point.
Gets worse when you get to the more unique weapons like exotics and raid weapons, because they don't have anything to be compared to. Like who made Anguish of Drystan? Did Oryx just keep these lying around in case he ran into a civilization just our size that could actually fight back?
At least with Shadow Price you can look at it and say it was made in the Last City for her Guardians.
And its not just the guns, I know I've been droning on about auto rifles here but the same can be said for all our gear: Armor, ships, sparrows, etc. Some of them have lore tabs, but they don't tell you much about the equipment itself, just some story that sometimes isn't even related to the gear at all.

If the lore on a gun isn’t about the gun, it’s probably part of a group of other guns with lore that tell a larger story. Just because the lore isn’t directly spelled out for you doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
