Game Freezes When Open for 6+ Hours

I can't provide any crash logs as the game simply hangs and requires me to end task with Task Manager. This issue has been going on for at least the duration of Lightfall, and seems to be happening much faster than it used to (it used to take about 11+ hours to crash). I only am aware of one other person who has had this issue, and they happen to have the same CPU and GPU as me. This makes me believe that there is a bug specific to the hardware I am playing on that needs to be addressed by the developers. It has persisted through an entire reinstall of Windows, and it has survived the RAM kit being entirely replaced in this system. • I finally had a variant of the hang that properly crashed, creating a crash folder here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/712356373769486446/1193048079973240834/crash_folder_19108_20240105_222323.zip I assume the most important bit would be this:
NVIDIA-Aftermath-DeviceStatus: call failed: bad00004 NVIDIA-Aftermath-GetData: call failed: bad00000 D3D-DeviceRemovedReason: graphics: dxgi device removed error [mapping a GPU resource]: [DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG] The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is an design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed.
The GPU was just replaced for an unrelated reason about 2 months ago. The drivers were just freshly reinstalled, following the instructions for proper DDU usage. I have no reason to suspect this is an issue with the driver installation given how long I've had this issue, and that it has survived multiple hardware changes. I do not believe it to be related to the CPU either given that I have found reports of it happening on Intel systems. Bungie and/or Nvidia needs to look into this please. I know it's not a high priority bug, but it is still something that should not be happening with consistency. Some more information on why I finally got a proper crash, I was testing multiple "maybe it's this" ideas at once so I cannot specifically say which it was. The most important changes I made were setting the game to Fullscreen instead of Windowed Fullscreen (which I believe to be the most likely cause currently, ever since the change in Witch Queen to Windowed Fullscreen may be when this bug was introduced). I also was testing with HAGS and Fullscreen Optimizations disabled in Windows, and with VRR disabled on my monitor. There is a chance any of those made the game crash gracefully instead of hang indefinitely. Regardless, I believe this crash report does capture the same bug.

 • Does replying "bump" the thread or do I need to repost to get more attention from Bungie? I can only see this being an issue with the game at this point. The game will consistently hang after several hours of active gameplay. It has been a problem for the past year at least. It has survived a reinstallation of windows, and I've tried all the suggestions given to me here in addition to plenty of others I've done on my own to try and fix it. BIOS and Drivers are up to date, Windows is up to date, the game isn't corrupting as steam's integrity check always returns no errors as does SFC on Windows. My system is stable. The CPU and GPU both are running at stock, hell the GPU was even recently replaced (same model). The RAM was tested in the past at stock and still had the issue. RAM was replaced as well. I've tried resetting all the settings in NVCP, in game, etc. I cannot get the game to generate a crashlog ever as it hangs which doesn't trigger creation of one. I only know of one other person with this same issue and they too have a 5900x and 3080 in their setup, which leads me to believe it is some specific issue with the hardware configuration and the game. I know this is not a high priority issue, but it is maddening trying to figure out a solution. I do not see any other party that can fix it aside from Bungie, unless you want me to start writing to AMD and Nvidia about it.

 • Hi there! According to your DxDiag report, your system is consistently experiencing AppHangB1 error codes with Destiny 2. This normally means that your system is having resource allocation issues. Please make sure that you are up to date with your drivers, as well as up to date on your BIOS. As BIOS update processes are unique to each system or mainboard, we cannot provide guidance on how to do this. It can also cause boot issues if the process is not followed to the manufacturer's standards. Please refer to your system's support site for further guidance on how to do so.
