I’d argue that the shape and general silhouette of the weapon model is more important in weapon identification that the color

Not really a good enough reason. The sound cues from exotics are way more noticable than the exotic being in the players hands. If I'm being shot at by a max range jade rabbit, I'm going to know it's a jade rabbit by the sound from the gun, not the color.

Not to be that guy, but what if you're not playing with sound? I play while listening to music all the time. Not saying the reason is good enough, but it is still an applicable reason.

You're still not likely to be looking at what gun they're using when you're in a gunfight. And in trials, the game shows you the exotics people are using at the start. Not letting exotics use shaders for that reason is sacrificing a lot of customizability for way to small a payout.

And in modes like Trials, people swap loadouts all the time mid game to accommodate situations. So you should definitely keep a lookout. Again, I think it'd be a good idea to put shaders on exotics, let's not get it twisted. But it is "a reason" why they won't.

Oh yeah it's definitely a reason. My argument is that it's a really awful reason.

I know. And I agree
