Why do developers needlessly complicate the game each expansion?

The entire new engram system is just one of the many convulted ideas each expansion. There's already significant to do in the game. How hard would it be to just bring the umbrella and gram to every vendor. But no they have to add eight steps for one easy step! It's like they never learn the simplest concepts. Gear caps ascendant cores the list goes on and on but they never seem to get the big picture. It would be nice if they just said hey we simplified a few things and here's one new system to learn at this point. Just my two cents

  • At this point, the Cryptarch should not even exist. I understand umbral engrams not decrypting when you receive them because you may want to focus them. But if legendary and exotic engrams automatically decrypt, why do we have to go to the Cryptarch to decrypt prime engrams? The Cryptarch does not focus umbral engrams, so he is obsolete and a waste of time for players. All of his vendor wares could be split among other vendors.

    From what I read, I basically just need a certain amount of engrams, glimmer, and shards to focus something I haven’t yet gotten or want a reroll on. Seems pretty straight forward to me. What is complicated though are those synth weave bounties and weapon crafting. Now those are unnecessary 😄.

  • Convoluted = Wasted play time = More player hours to pitch at board meetings. It also always Bungie to pretend they are listening when they eventually change the cumbersome systems to what they know they should have been all along. It would be like if I cooked you a steak and burnt it on purpose and then gradually gave you a few more cooked slightly better each time until I arrived at the way I always knew it should be cooked and then you praise me for "getting better".

      I don’t feel like there is anything all that convoluted yet with these twabs? Unless you’re complaining on “run to vendor to talk to another vendor”. If that irritates you, blame the people that think D2 needed more of a “story”. My guess is strand will be convoluted but otherwise everything seems clear to me. Edit: misspellings

The only real difference coming is that Umbral Engrams are now being changed to Seasonal Engrams. That’s pretty straight forward. Every other single aspect of what they outlined boiled down to… “Have you acquired this piece of gear before?” “If yes then it’ll cost you X amount.” “If no then it’ll cost you Y amount.” There’s nothing even remotely convoluted about it lol. You either have the Engrams, Shards, and Glimmer to focus gear/legacy gear or you don’t and you wait until you do. It couldn’t be anymore cut and dry than that. You talk about Bungie adding “eight steps” but what exactly are those steps? Enlighten me.

          • How else are they gonna keep the game feeling fresh? If the game is stale then players leave. If something is too simple then players leave, if something is too complicated then players leave. Bungie knows how to change things up and keeping them fresh, its what they have been doing for years and why a lot of people are still playing the game and buying every expansion.

            • You do realise once it’s ingame it’ll look and feel much simpler. If anything with the new changes coming with Lightfall the game is being dumbed down significantly.

                People don't need to go flawless in trials for example to get adepts and that's convoluted to you? I'm confused lol

                • Changing things like mods and other stupid things like weapon perks are the only way for them to nerf thing without directly nerfing things. They can change the mod system fully so they can nerf us, but instead of saying they are nerfing us they say there is a cool new way to build craft. Everything that was used will still be used, but now the mods that gave us good buffs will require more building into it. This is what happened with the orbs of light nerf as well. They said their engine was the problem, but obviously it wasn't they added the stupid intrinsic foundry perks in place of orb gen. Why take orb gen away and add some bs, just put orb gen as a foundry mod for all weapons, no they wanted to nerf us, but didn't want to say they were nerfing us. That is why they do stupid things to nerf the player without saying they are nerfing the player.

                • Bungie has a history of making thing needlessly complicated & massively convoluted for the sake of keeping you logged in longer. Their re-invent the wheel approach to development means that even something as simple as weapon crafting was way over complicated on WQ release. There's a simple way to do things & then theirs the Bungie way of doing things. Perhaps the sale to Sony wasn't about strategic partnerships, but more to do with a studio on the decline & needing a massive cash injection to keep it afloat.
