The problem you’re speaking of is mostly caused by how optimized the community has made this game by now.
In destiny 1, when a new expansion released, people would be scrambling to find all of its secrets months after it’s released and showing off the new exotics to all their friends, and showing them how to get it etc.
A new expansion releases in destiny 2, and most people have completed everything new in the game by the second day after release, all exotics have been found and optimal methods have been created, youtubers post videos titled “Most OVERPOWERED build in Destiny 2 USE THIS NOW” and everything powerful has been abused and nerfed by the one month mark.
It’s not the fault of Bungie or the players, it can simply never be the same again

D1 was the exact same way, I guarantee it. I vividly remember people complaining about a sore lack of content between expansions in destiny 1 because 1. They blew through it in days, and 2. There really was a sore lack of content. Min/maxing was also in the first game, but it was really just in raids. Not acknowledging the fact that toxic gamers existed even then is just overindulgence of rose-tinted glasses.

Edited by Chrytor-6: 5/28/2022 9:47:56 AMPersonally glad I was a player during those times. Because I doubt the mystery that D1 managed to capture will return unless there’s a third game, or insanely massive expansion. I will say though, that the closest D2 ever got to that D1 feeling was with Forsaken.
