Tried to Unlink Steam and Xbox accounts for my son, All xbox characters deleted
My son started out on Destiny 2 with a character on his mom's Steam account, he's older now and has been playing on Xbox and wanted to be independent from his mom's account. I assumed since it said on the Bungie website that once cross save was disabled, all characters would be in both places. I went ahead and unlinked his Xbox account from her Steam account and it simply deleted every character from his game on Xbox. I thought they were both supposed to remain? Now it says nothing can be done about it for 90 days. Is there anything a Bungie employee can do to help?

At no point does it say that cross-save accounts will merge data with other platforms. Not sure where you got that info from.

Nothing merges. All characters are permanently bound to the platform they were created on. They would now have to play on steam (if that is where they were) if they want to use those characters or start over on Xbox.
