I know, I know, Destiny isn’t Call of Duty or Halo, it was never meant to be. However... We are absolutely kidding ourselves if we think a slow transition into a PVE exclusive title will go over smoothly for the game’s survival. Many in the PVE community (or those who are just trash at PVP and are bitter about it) have continuously reminded people on this forum and on Reddit that “PVP was never a priority” or have said “Just wait for MATTER” when someone complains about Bungie’s inaction regarding PVP. This is a purely destructive mindset and if Bungie shares this same sentiment, this game will begin to look a lot more like Outriders than I’d like to imagine and wither away as a shell of what it once was. There is a huge proportion of Destiny players that have PVP as their central mode. YouTube and Twitch channels have built their careers around it, and for the last 7 years the crucible has been part of what makes Destiny what it is. The ability to earn a gun in one mode and use it in another is part of what makes the game so addicting. If Bungie does not add anything substantial by Witch Queen at the absolute latest (regardless of how amazing the raid and dungeon is) This game will see a significant drop in active players. Now this might not seem catastrophic to the average casual player, but for Bungie, and the dedicated player, This will lower the amount of revenue the game takes in and create a hailstorm of negative press for months. Bungie is playing with fire thinking that the game’s identity will remain intact, along with its player count. It will be increasingly bizarre walking into a tower seeing characters like Shaxx standing in the tower being “in charge” of a mode that is dry as the Sahara desert. Bungie, at this point you are in damage control. Something needs to be injected into Crucible so that at a MINIMUM the players can at least know it’s on your radar. A map, a mode.... Anything.
