Is this some sort of Gen VIII joke I'm too pokeboomer to understand?

In Gen VI they added the Fairy type. Fairy types have an HP draining move called Draining Kiss, that deals damage and heals the user. It’s actually one of the worse Fairy type moves, imo, but the gym leaders do use it a lot.

I've played up until Gen VII so I know about Fairy types and Draining Kiss. I just never witnessed it in gyms because I never played X/Y.
