Why is Cerberus +1 catalyst so bad?

I am just wondering why the Cerberus +1 has a dual negative catalyst with such a weak positive attribute. You lose both range and firing rate to gain a meager tighter spray. The range on this weapon is already pretty short to begin with and therefore making it even shorter simply is not viable in any situation. The catalyst also does not list that there is a drop in firing rate but there is anyway. Also, the Cerberus+1 already has a trait that fires the weapon with a tighter spray while aiming down sights. It seems this is the only catalyst that only offers negative impact on an exotic weapon, some are not great but still provide an improvement over the weapons base version. My suggestion would be to remove the secondary firing mode and maybe add stability and reload speed at the very least or add a perk that allowed the main barrel to fire an oversized kinetic slug that has more range and deals more damage than the other three barrels. Any perk that would return ammo to the magazine would also be of great use on that weapon.

  • Honestly I always thought it should have worked more like Roadhog's alt fire in overwatch. A big clump of bullets for semi precision. That or make it like a bizzaro suros where as you fire your cone gets more narrow with each shot but your fire rate goes down and gets more damage.

  • A “meager tighter spray” with slower fire rate that hits a hell of a lot harder than the standard shots if I recall.

  • Are you kidding? It wrecks. Really good at finishing of frozen guardians right now. Let’s you cover all the bases, catalyst for really short range, non catalyst for short/medium(it has inverse damage falloff), and a scout/pulse for long. And you don’t drop special for the enemy.

      • The 2nd mode is basically a Shotgun. Use it like one and its good, just not expect Special damage because its still a primary.

      • It’s not - you’re using it wrong if it’s not working. It can absolutely melt an overload champion this season. Hits between 4000-5000 and if you do single trigger pulls instead of using it full auto you fire faster. Massively underrated gun!

            • cerberus absolutely sucks ever since they buffed auto rifles but did nothing for cerberus there isn't a single reason to use this thing over countless other options, the balancing is that bad

              • I love the gun and it’s dual fire mode, I just don’t think the secondary fire mode is better in any situation than the ordinary one, so it definitely needs a rework in that regard.

              • Cerberus...low range? You do realise the stat is fake right? It has the same range damage falloff as a MAX range gnawing hunger . The catalyst makes it a 2 bodyshot at 15 meters or less. Very good for people who like to rush.

                • Honestly forgot that gun existed. But i thought it was fun when I still played. Thought the catalyst was cool too since it actually added something to the gun. Instead of adding some handling speed or stability that you'll more than likely never notice at all.

                  • Oh, It actually uses to be god tiee, but Bungie killed it. You sacrifice damage for accuracy. As a primary it's like a crappy full auto shotgun. Accuracy is bad so the gun is bad

                  • you need to experiment more with C+1 and its catalyst; it has a weird attribute of INVERSE damage drop-off, where its damage goes UP with range, and then proceeds to go down again. the point of the catalyst is to provide more range but similar DPS, as landing all of the bullets is paramount to maximizing your damage, and the catalyst offers a safer, and different, avenue of achieving such. its also balanced this way to keep it in check in crucible.

                  • The only issue with it is it's range. Any targets within it are shredded while the ones beyond it are merely annoyed. Honestly, I think the weapon would benefit greatly if they would just swap accuracy for range. Let all of the shots fire in a random or in a rotation pattern making aiming that much more difficult with the range getting boosted to match the average auto rifle range. Couple this with the weapon's cone of fire, it'll still be way more effective up close rather than from afar. But it can provide fire down range, just don't count on hitting your target much.

                  • In PvE It halves the fire rate and doubles the damage. That and it has a high damage output regardless of mode if you know how and when to use them. I love the gun but in crucible it’s nearly worthless at this point in the TTK meta. Basically this guns damage falloff is shaped like a triangle. Rather than a slope like essentially every other gun. In red mode it does less damage at the barrel and the most damage at about 8m-12m then starts dropping again after about 20m. It has a startling amount of effective range, even if not all the pellets hit. The center pellet does the most damage as well. This should be your go to mode for short and medium range. In green mode the damage starts at the barrel so it can be used like a full auto shotgun in CQC, but drops off much sooner. Land headshots at close range with this mode. Use green mode in full auto because single shots lowers effective RoF significantly because when the catalyst first came out you could tap fire it at nearly twice the full auto RoF. And that was nerfed harshly. While green mode isn’t a straight upgrade it is useful for prying a larger enemy off you at a close range 4 pellet hit will often stagger unshielded foes.
