*Disclaimer: I was chill most of time in the story. I just worded it weird and it sounds like I got upset or whatever because I was trying to write this while at work.*
For context for you fellow people, I recently swapped mains from a hunter to a titan because I’ve been playing hunter since launch of D1 and just want a change. Also, I don’t have an opinion on “master race” because the argument I think is stupid and every class works for everyone else’s play style, so every class should have their own abilities. One more note, I’m a pretty chill guy, I admit it was my mistake when I die in crucible and if I die it’s just whatever, it’s a game. I don’t teabag or emote because it’s just stupid and a waste of time IMO. Which if you do it, it’s cool, we all have our own thing. So with that out of the way. Let’s get to the topic.
My friend wanted to play some iron banner and not to gloat but I think I’m at least above average where he kinda suffers. So we play a few matches, I’m working on getting Randy’s Throwing Knife, but every few minutes I keep hearing him complain about how titans are broken, warlocks are superior in PVP, and hunters are underwhelmingly bad and needs buffs (he’s a hunter main if you couldn’t tell). Also continues to complain about mountaintop and recluse. Also, in his mind, nothing is his fault. If he dies, it’s the games fault or the other persons.
Another few matches played and instead of every few minutes of complaints it’s turning into every time he dies, which was often because he was being irrational from being tilted. I was annoyed and told him if he doesn’t like the game then just go. After that proceeded to ask me “why do you play this god awful game” to which I reply “I’m having fun, it’s just a game. That’s all I came here to do.” He leaves, so now I can finally enjoy crucible my way.
I proceed to play iron banner and when I’m back to having a good time, managed to get 3% on my Randy’s Throwing Knife quest. I get 4 messages from 4 different people saying I’m reported. Which, if i was, that’s not cool haha. Also, just tells me, they’re just mad and they just can’t do anything about it. If this’ll be a constant thing, I don’t actually want to get banned. Idk if I would but just I be safe I got off. Wasn’t vibing with crucible much that day anyways.
I know lots of you don’t care but this is just my experience. Feel free to tell me your stories or possibly give points on whatever you think I need to improve on. Thanks for dropping by. It’s been cool. See you around friendly people.

If people think this game has people tilted, I wonder what kids nowadays would have done back in the Halo 2 era. 😅

Man, I have messages from randumb cry babies blocked. So, I never see any praise, curses, report threats, or any of that crap. My bud gets them daily. He's not even techy enough to know how to cheat if he wanted to. He's just good at the Crucible. Don't worry about the reports. Bungie researches reports, and if you did nothing wrong, you wont get banned.

The only relevant philosophy to apply in this sort of environment when seeking to understand behaviour is Attribution Theory . The average person who doesn't carefully discriminate/analyse their own efforts and seek to grow will have an attitude of: 1. Someone else is late/makes a mistake etc.... it's their fault as a person. 2. If they are late or make a mistake .... it's always caused by some external influence and NOT their fault. It's an immature form of rationalisation that many adults engage in as they don't have true integrity in accepting responsibility or recognising causation. PS: These are often the same type of individuals who decree that anyone who has more than them doesn't deserve it, and those who have less than them aren't doing enough to earn their way. or they would have more.

‘You are above average’ he is not ...therein lies the issue. He was getting matched with players way above his skill set teaming up with you and didn’t have much of a chance, which made his experience miserable. And please don’t give me the ‘you need to play against better players to improve crap’ getting pub stomped every game makes you never want to play again.... I know. Learning maps and angles while you are still alive makes you get better and gives you confidence. Be kind to your friend and take him into some private matches and give him some advice.

The world of online gaming is quite a roller coaster of emotions. The diverse environments and connections to millions of people we meet daily in these worlds bring out the best and worst in people. I have seen my fair share of both. I like the way you responded without being too negative. People like to complain, it’s only natural at this point and I’ve caught myself doing very similar things. (Maybe not to that extreme though). One thing I’ve enjoyed quite a bit recently is to just go to a planet, take missions slow, enjoy the world I am in, and take in a deep breath and relax... while I shoot hordes of enemies :)

So why did it take a page of reading to get to the point?

You know what I find toxic? This casual use of the term. The toxic one was your friend, and by extension, you, via hyperbole and ignorance. If you weren't talking like a racist or a bigot and you weren't altering the format (tech wise), mofos saying "reported" are pissing into the wind. Stop getting wet.
-
You said you're at work so you're old enough to have a job, so you should be old enough not to let this minuscule thing bother you at all. I'm not even that good at crucible and I get messages all the time saying reported, or talking smack saying I cheated or whatever else they say, who cares?
-
idk if its a different attitude on pc but ive only ran into 1 toxic person in pvp since i came back for shadowkeep. its honestly been refreshing and because of the freelance comp mode ive actually been trying to grind glory for the first time since launch when my friends were still playing.
-
The toxicity can get really bad, and it's so bad that it's become predictable. Wanna get challenged to a 1v1 and called a bot? Or just told you're garbage? Play a little game called "Bag the Unbroken." Wanna have your own teammates yell at you in a message? Die with motes in Gambit or steal the invasion portal. Wanna have a PvE tryhard say you're garbage and judge you? Load into an LFG group with a fun loadout on instead of the YouTube special. But it is what it is. Best I can say is just leave the toxicity behind and just try and have fun.
-
It's never the person's own fault they die or lose a game it's always some broken weapon or sub class etc..blah blah blah...its the same with every online game honestly it's just pathetic
-
To be honest, this IB I have not even seen anyone t-bagging or emoting. As a d1 beta player this is a first for me..
-
Last time I got hate mail the dude called me trash and told me to kill myself when i wasnt even trying. I then dropped a 40 bomb and mercied his team. He then decided to comment on tons of my saved clips with " trash " .... of course he had his profile on private lol funniest thing was that he sent me hate mail months prior too and I just never responded lol these people are crazy
-
I had an older gentleman with a very thick Italian accent sending me voice messages about how he will kill me in real life, called me wannabe a ton of times? And said reported for one shot. I think I shot him with my golden gun. I bagged him cuz he was being hella funny and he said reported for bagging. Gotta love the iron banner
-
I play a lot of crucible and haven’t seen a hate message in months. I think it’s mainly that I’m a sort of a aggressive sniper, well I don’t snipe from spawn because some cheeky snipes can occur that way so I rush with a sniper as if it’s a handcannon or chaperone a little bit. The last hate message I got was 3 months ago saying I was a sweat and it ended there

If you want to avoid most of the toxicity... Stay off the forums and set your messages to friends only It's sad that this is the state we are in with Destiny, it genuinely is one of the most toxic communities. I don't care what charities Bungie and some streamers donate to. The community as a whole is terrible and only wants to whine or argue. I definitely get heated about certain things in game, so I am by no means a saint...but it's been out of hand for 5 years now.
-
Imagine having the sensitivity of a dying flower. Sad
-
It's the reporting that drives me insane and it's the reason that hackers will rarely be caught, for every legit hacker report, there's 100 bogus reports that essentially boil down to player X is better than me and i just can't handle that.
-
Get over it...
-
I just recently had some "hate mail" from a dude in a strike.... I somehow stubbed my toe falling like 5ft and this dude just started to tea-bag me and not even bother to rez. So when we killed boss i started shooting him and what not, he decided to send me " you're aim is trash" and i said "this isnt crucible, this is a strike wtf? You try hitting someone with no aim assist on controller" he says "that hand cannon has 92 aim assist and you still can't hit me." (i play on xbox btw) Idk seems ever since cross save/new light happend, there has been more toxicity going around.
-
I know someone like that who complains every time he dies, even when he gets a kill. He doesn't have a single match where he doesn't complain. It's gotten to the point where I actively avoid playing with him cause it's just boring to listen to. I'd much rather listen to music and have fun with the game.
-
That's why I love playing on PC. Its incredibly difficult for the players I'm beating to message me and complain.
-
I get so many messages from people because when they die they get salty about you killing them. The way to counter it is to message back with ok. Thats the best thing to say. They want a reaction from you so they can feel better about themselves. If you dont ingage its funny for you becasue if its in the middle of a game they work therehardest to kill you and it never works because they start playing angry. Just ignore the trolls and haters you play the game the way you want and dont let anyone tell you its scummy or anything. Just play and ignore idiots
-
I always found it hard from D1 to have fun without complaints in both Crucible and Iron Banner... But i’m a Warlock and I can say all we’re good for is Nova Warp and Dawnblade in the Crucible.. Nothing more. Reach is too quick to drain with little potency a lot of the time, and Nova Bomb is easy to outsmart in both paths. These last 2 days, i’ve dealt with people who say this game is at it’s worst since Forsaken. But I don’t agree with that. I thought Opulence was the worst because of the Tribute Hall being an absolute grindfest. Bad Juju was worth it, but this drained a lot of my mats dry.
-
I perfectly understand your point. I've receveid so many hate mails for whatever reason that in the end I disabled messages from people that are not in my friend list. This helped me a lot. I'm not a saint (14). I t-bagged, emoted and bullied people sometimes when they did it to me first. Yeah, that's wrong, it's toxic and we should always try to be better people and avoid this kind of behaviour. That's absolutely true and I know I'm on the wrong side. But, you know, sometimes you just can't stand the situation and you end to be overtaken by the rage and the frustation. About your friend; I think that many of us (me first) passed trought that phase at the beginning. More you play, more you learn, less frustating it becomes.
