MMO claims Directer Smith

I have never seen an MMO with such little content, nor one that removes content as the game develops. Unless someone else can point to other mmo's which have.

  • It's not an mmo.

    • "MMO" doesn't really have a set definition other than what it literally stands for (Massively Multiplayer, Online) which Destiny fits.

      • The problem is that they more than likely really do want Destiny to be defined as an MMO, but it lacks true aspects of one. The fact that Destiny is limited to a restricted and outdated server design that limits a fairly sized group of people from actually getting together to play a single activity says about as much. Take for instance good old Escalation Protocol. At the time after Warmind released, it was clearly designed to be contested by 6+ players, but in order to actually reach past Wave 4-6 folks had to force their way around making enough players get into the public zones in groups of fireteams since there was no matchmaking or any other means of actually forming a large enough team for EP outside of sheer chance of random players logged in with high enough light to run the Waves. What an actual MMO would do is have something akin to planetary servers with an online player count that shows how many folks are actually there at a given time. It also would allow a larger amount of folks to get into a public area zone or at least have a matching/queing system for those who just wanna do EP. By using Bungie’s definition of an “MMO” I could just as easily claim that Monster Hunter World or Warframe is an MMO not because their actual activities are limited to 4-player teams, but because they have public zones that allow large amounts of people to interact with each other. That’s a shitty definition of an MMO, and would be considered invalid by anyone who actually has experience playing one.

        • Sure, I’ll be glad to answer your question. As soon as you can name another first person mmo :)

            • By "MMO", bungie meant "less guns, less content".

              • They said it was an Action MMO, but yeah. The "new" content is a pittiful offering for the cost of it. Kinda wish I'd pre ordered The Last of Us 2 instead I really don't think there is enough "new" in here. I;m already feeling that I'm treading water, and the piecemeal drops over 3 months … I don't think its enough especially for the cost of it, and the ongoing cost of the season pass. and before anyone says, I'm playing this as super casually as I can possibly do. TL:DR WHERE'd ALL THE LOOT go???!!!!

                • With a 8 player limit in a shared public instance, it’s hardly a “massive” (M)MO.

                  • They've just began evolving their game. They're two days into a hybrid system. Calm down and give it time

                    • Content does not dictate a games ability to call itself an MMORPG. You see a lot of people running around in a shared open world experience, that’s generally what an MMO is. I’m not sure if there is an exact number of players in a shared open world that dictates whether a game is an MMO or not. Although I do believe that this game is stretching the definition of a MMO.
