On the whole, yes. Lots of raw/grilled fish and grilled meat, and lots of rice. Japanese food is typically not as heavily flavoured as western food, which was nice but took a little getting used to. We got to try Wagyu Beef, which was awesome. You wouldn't think raw beef could taste so good but you'd be surprised.

How about the beverages?

Again, pretty good. They have a milk flavoured soda called Calpis which I drank a lot while I was there. The iced coffee was pretty good too. A lot of places give you the option to have drinks hot or cold. I'm not really an alcohol person but you can get something called a Cora Sour which is a mix of Cola and Shōchū (a spirit distilled from rice, barley, sweet potatoes, buckwheat, or brown sugar.) It was super drinkable and tasted great unlike some of the mixed drinks I'm used to, so it was mainly what I ordered.
