You don't remember all the negativity people in D1 were showing up with about SRL??? Even a lot of the D1 players will have issues with it showing back up. Myself? I REALLLLY want it back. First time it showed up, I waited until about halfway through to make my first run (I wasn't opposed to it, I simply didn't have time). Once I made a few runs, I quickly decided that EVERY moment I could play would be in racing. I still ended up maxing out SRL on 6 characters, on 2 accounts. I definitely remember all the negativity from other people in the forums though.

  • I never saw the forums when SRL was around but even if they were super negative, it wasn't reflected in the game that's for sure. Never once had a problem finding a game in SRL, the problem was actually trying to find a game in the crucible. XD

  • I wouldn't go as far as saying it was 'super negative', but there was a lot of it. It was a pretty good mix of good and bad though. The majority of the negative posts (iirc) were more in line with how D_Beaton replied to me. I can fully respect his opinion on the matter. I can definitely understand why some people would rather have the resources put into something else, even if I would be happy with it coming back. It's simply one of those "different strokes for different folks" things. :)

  • I'm a D1 veteran and I don't want it back. Personally, I'm all for people having a mode for whatever they want to do. However I think developmental resources can be far better used. I don't think SRL does anything for the game other than maybe draw some players away from other team based activities. No one is going to buy D2 because of SRL. The game mode will be a ghost town in a matter of weeks, just like EP, just like Archon's Forge, just like Court of Oryx. To me, dedicating resources to it just seems like a waste.

  • I can fully understand and respect that. You are right about nobody buying it for SRL. I just like the variance to the overall game. I will say that I rarely found myself in an empty Forge or Court and I ran both modes frequently, but that was nothing more than my own experience with it. I don't recall the threads about Forge being empty, but I can remember people discussing not running into others in Court. EP? Yeah, no disagreeing with that. :) I did think it was a failure for them to add in the private mode for SRL, but I did wish they ran the event a couple more times. Again, that is nothing more than my strange opinion. :)

  • The whole idea is that it's part of the dawning. The dawning lasts 3 weeks, and if they have gear to earn by playing SRL as well as of course, other PvE activities, wouldn't that be neat? I respect your opinion about not wanting it back and I'm glad to see you have a real reason as to why not. Everyone else says, "no, it's not a racing game, blah blah", but you have a legitimate reason. I think that as long as it's just a Dawning event like previous years, it'll be fine. There's plenty of places to choose from too, they could even use the infinite forest in a couple of areas, the rig could be fun, etc. Again, I respect your opinion if you still would prefer it not make a return even if just for the Dawning, however I have to ask one thing. Out of curiosity, what would you have available as an activity for the dawning? I feel like another horde mode will get boring considering parts of the new expansion are already horde mode activities and we just had one for the festival of the lost. Obviously we can't have a repeat of last year with literally nothing to do but throw snowballs, so what do you think?

Obviously we can't have a repeat of last year with literally nothing to do but throw snowballs, so what do you think?[/quote] Well, to be clear, I agree with those that say "this isn't a racing game". I personally did not enjoy SRL. I also never understood the concept of "here we are on the brink of extinction, fighting agents of darkness and killing ancient gods... but we also have time to set up this incredibly intricate sparrow racing track and maintain an entire sports league!" It just never made a lick of sense to me, but I digress. Those are simply my personal feelings about SRL. But, as I noted before, I'm all for everyone finding enjoymeny in this game. Some people love farming, some people love speed running strikes, some love sweaty pvp, not everybody likes everything. I get it, this is our game not MY game. I preferred year one weapon slots and crucible meta to the current OHK meta as well, but I've had to adapt because enough other people disagreed with me. SRL is different than other events and past times though. The FotL event was relatively easy to slap together from the already criminally underused Infinite Forrest. SRL would have to be built from the ground up. To me, that's just a lot of man hours and effort to put into something that doesn't advance story, doesn't build characters personalities, or, based on D1, provide any meaningful loot. Sorry, I just don't care to invest even the minimal amount of time I spent to get Horror Story to get, what, a sparrow? Some useless cosmetic racing armor? As for solutions, I don't know. I simply returned my opinion about "should we have SRL". I agree, more horde mode events would get tiresome. I think I'd like it if Bungie used these events to run silly little missions with voice interactions from different tower members. Maybe this time have Hawthorne tell a story about what the Dawning means to her while we get challenged to go plant presents around the EDZ. Whatever, just somethimg more story driven than cosmetic reward driven. Hell, if we're going to go so far as to build something entirely from scratch like they'd need to for SRL, let's put a section of full time Gambit like pvevp on one of the planets with different daily objectives for Dawning rewards. Not a competitive place, but like a game of hockey like in the tower but with enemies on the field. Anyways, long winded and I wandered. Simply put, I don't get paod enough to solve Bungies problems. I just wish they'd address the problems they already have before going and inventing new ones.

  • Haha! I thought the snowballs were going to be ridiculous as soon as I read about it. It ended up being fun for me, but it was a bit on the goofy side. :)
