An Inside Look: Graviton Lance
Hey, thanks for reading thread in advance or at least clicking on to see it. I really appreciate it if you up-voted this so others could see it.
This is a new thing for me and I call it "An inside look". What I simply do is take a deep look inside certain things or events being talked a lot in the forums. So today I decided to tackle the Infamous Graviton Lance or as most fans know it, the God Slayer in the crucible. Today in this "An Inside Look" we will answer questions if why the weapon is so godly in the crucible and extinguish some of these myths posted in the forums.
-How fast does it take to kill someone?
Now this weapon is a two-three burst head shot if the "Powerful bullet" hits all critical in the head. So no you cant get one shotted by a lance even with low resilience.
-What make this weapon so godly?
Many people claim that this weapon is "Easy to use" but, the harsh reality is all weapons are easy to use if you just put effort into it. Graviton is not easy at it seems simply because this weapon needs head shots to be effective in the crucible otherwise you'll mostly get out gunned if you just shoot body shots. Even if the recoil is zero when its fired then it starts the kick. Its almost like a laser pointer. The real reason the gun is so godly and it hits hard is due to one small factor, how many bullets are in the burst. A normal pulse riffle has 3 bullets in a single burst. Each bullet has a chance to land a critical shot but normally its kind of hard to pull off landing all three. Most of the time its usually the first two or first bullet that land on the critical. Even with that you also have the kick while shooting the pulse at the same time making it even harder to land all three. Graviton is different, making basically the "Powerful bullet" act as two bullets so if you hit that critical spot your basically hitting two critical shots from a normal pulse. On top of that the kick is after the weapon is fired so it always lands straight for the most part. Even with that you still have the weak shot for a chance to hit a critical spot or hit a body shot also.
-Conclusion
The reason why Graviton Lance is godly is simply because the burst has two shots with the "Powerful shot" acting as two normal pulse bullets but, it also has Zero kick until after its fired so making it easy to land basically two bullets out of three critical shots to head.

It is much easier to use compared to other weapons of its class. The fact that there are only two shots makes it even easier. -
An inside look? We clearly see that Graviton has been shitting on 90% of the other Weapons in the game.

The Time-Worn Spire does well enough if I ever need to dip my head in the Crucible for any PvE missions.

2 RepliesYeah sure its hard to get headshots with the auto aim that gun has.. Also you forgot the flinch in causes which is just too much. Also there are other points.. if you try this again dude, go deeper. This is not enough for something like this..

I'm hoping the next season brings these two back into line with the rest of the D2 weapon list. EDIT: BTW, GL is easy-mode compared to other weapons. I keep it stowed since using it feels like cheating when benched against other options.

Grateful for your insight but try this out in Private: two players stand across from each in other in medium range. One player has Graviton, the other can use any weapon they choose. Just let them stand there and fire at each other. The results are shocking: Graviton comes out swinging each time. Now I'm not saying that this means Graviton wins in all engagements, because that's impossible to prove. What I am saying is that it takes very very little skill to use Graviton effectively and it does an insane amount of damage very quickly. Most 1v1 situations a skilled player has to work really really hard to win against any player using Graviton. That's what makes this weapon infamous.

The weapon is godly because it takes no skill to use and has the best ttk. Thats all.

It's a pulse with more range than any scout rifle in the game. The range needs to be nerfed. It shouldn't beat scout rifles at far range.

Another thing, Gravs overall critical damage if both shots are landed is higher than high impact scouts and hand cannons. As an example Jade rabbit crits for 56 when fate of all fools doesn’t proc. Gravitons 2nd shot alone crits the same exact number. The 1st bullet does 12. 12+56=68 critical damage per burst. The only way for Jade Rabbit to 3 tap any guardian is if you land 2 body shots and a crit. Lance even has a higher fire rate in between pulses. Lances optimal ttk is higher than Vigilance Wings and crimsons in conparison but neither have the potential to wipe full teams for killing one opponent, and neither have scout rifle range as well. Graviton lance has all the pros of scouts and pulse rifles put together with little to no cons other than needing to land the 2nd shot. Jade Rabbit/ scour rifles are completely nullified against this weapon, the only edge any ranged weapon has against Graviton is just that; its range. Its not that Graviton is outright better than Wing, Rabbit, Crimson and even Claymore but for most situations as far as teamshotting and lanes are concerned Graviton has the highest potential to easily wipe a full team with minimal effort. Its catalyst multiplies that to 11 because it grants it even more range and aim assist making it the best of both worlds. Its seekers also deal just as much damage as most grenades.

The reality is the gun has high aim assist, no recoil and hits like a truck. The cat gives it scout range and increased target acquisition. The gun despite you're opinion is incredibly easy to use in comparison to most other weapons. It's effective at almost every combat range. You can run it on every map in crucible and be in the fight at all times. So what you have is a weapon that has no down time or learning curve that has a fast time to kill. The reason why people gravitate towards it is because it's easy to use and the time to kill. Crimson and vwing kill fast to but aren't as easy to use and don't have the same effective range.

I only use it in PVE. I feel like scum when I use it in PVP.

One of the best things it did through popular use was reduce the number of people just sitting together as it punishes teams that sit too tightly together. As many have said there will always be a ‘top’ weapon no matter, no use crying or moaning about it because as soon as one gun is replaced another takes its spot - before this it was Mida/TWS/TLW and currently there are other options equally good - Vigilance if you can control the recoil and Crimson if you can master pulse that looks like hand cannon - plus Jade Rabbit and Polaris Lance are good at long range as the flinch mucks up the graviton user massively. Just pick weapons according to map.
