I've switched my sprint and 'back' buttons on my PS4 and moved to 'Puppeteer' controller mode.
Problem has been solved for me for almost a year.

After seeing your comment I tried it, but for me the problem remains, I'm still not able to trigger the animation while sprinting. What buttons do you press, and how, exactly?

I'll have to try it hopefully tonight. TBH maybe I've just never noticed the problem before. For me that button and controller config just works better for me. It was originally intended to stop me from pressing sprint while aiming and forcing me out of ADS.
