Help Me Lore Masters! How Strong is Golden Gun in The Lore?

I've always been curious about how strong abilities are in the lore but for this post I want to specifically ask about Golden Gun. The Golden Gun lore tab makes it sound like it could kill a Kell in 1 shot. In D2's first cutscene we see Cayde activate his Golden gun and starts shooting. We don't see any enemies that were in the room with them in that cutscene, so I'm assuming he was shooting at the ships. If that's the case does that mean Golden gun is strong enough to take out ships or I am simply looking too far into and Bungie just wanted to make each Vanguard member do something in that cutscene? Another question I had is about the number of shots a Golden gun has. Is the number of Golden Gun shots a Gunslinger can shoot based on the user and can that user increase that number over time the more they use it? Or is there a hard cap to the number of shots for all Gunslingers? I plan on asking more questions like this about other supers and other stuff later on.

  • Maybe it depends on the shot that’s fired in my case the less numbers in the cylinder the more damage it does. Think about it the celestial nighthawk shoots one round and has an ass ton of damage, but the more shots that are fired the less damage it does kinda like how the way of the sharpshooter does like no damage. (pve wise)

  • I think it mostly depends on the Guardian. Shin Malfur created the first GG by channeling the light into The Last Word. Ana Brey's GG was powerful enough to leave pools of light that last for decades, if not centuries. There are many stories like this, and each one is different because of the guardian using it.

  • Ana Bray fired a single shot that left residual light at Twilight Gap. I fired a shot that took a worm's life.

That's the problem with Lore though, you can't really translate it into the game. From a lore perspective, if WE were a lore character, we would be godly and untouchable with powers that Ana Bray could only hope to achieve. Defeating Gods, Kells, Cabal leaders, Vex Minds, we would be true marvels. Heck, we'd probably have Taken and SIVA powers by now, easy. But because we're actually in the game we'll never be that far along. -- That being said... consider this. Crota cracked the moon. In the game, he couldn't even crack the floor. That gives you a nice little scope from lore to game.

As of right now, our guardian’s light is nothing special compared to many other figures such as Shin Malphur and Ana Bray, but the D1 subclass description suggests that most just know when and where to use it. There are definitely more powerful guardians that use it more effectively than we do though.

It varies. Ana Bray was able to create spots of permanent light where she shot her GG and they can still shine through Taken darkness. But we don’t create spots of light just tiny orbs.

          • There should be a Hunter super that uses Golden Finger Guns. Bungie, I accept checks.

Depending on the Guardian and their training, they could probably shoot down ships and vessels depending on the size, and they aren't limited to subclass nodes like we are, so I imagine they could be much more powerful. A weaker or untrained Guardian might struggle to damage a ship.

            • Depends on the guardian. Ana bray was probably the most powerful slinger in existence that we know of. Her GG shot she made at twilight gap STILL has light energy burning there. Off the top of my head nova bombs are said to have the power of a collapsing star. I forget which titans but one titan through another one that went into fist of havoc and one banged a fallen walker.

              • I think it depends on how many shots and the power of those shots that the guardian wants. If your guardian is a gunslinger his/her practice would be to restrain to 1, 3, or 6 shots, the more shots, the less power in each shot. Think about it like this: if a guardian has a resevoir of light inside their bodies (how much depending on their power) they can pick and choose how much power goes into one shot, so each shot will deplete a little bit, or even all of that resevoir. Ana bray could probably shoot at least 15 of our six shooter shots because she is so powerful and her "resevoir" is so large.

              • Alot of people have already hit the nail on the head. It depends on the guardian and how strong they are in the light. In the lore during the battle of Twilight Gap, it is said that Ana Brey's golden gun blazed like the sun, and sun spots fell from her firey shots, leaving molten pools where they fell littering the ground in a solar spotted blaze. I assume that this means that a guardian can mold and wield their light any way they want.. This cannon and of course all in the lore... In the game our guardians are limited to the games restrictions, but you can write your characters abilities any way you want. Want your guardian to wield ice and snow instead? In a story they certainly can.

                • In some of the lore it is stated that the golden gun rips through enemies leaving only a pool of light in the hunter path. This is referring to Ana Bray and the Battle of the Twilight Gap. So in other words it’s like very single wipe mechanism in a raid had a baby. You determine what that means

                • Ana. Bray. Her golden gun was pretty much celestial nighthawk on 100 tons of pure steroids. It’s been awhile but i think she shot it during twilight gap and i think her light is still burning in the walls. So yeah, the stronger your light the stronger your golden gun is.

                • Like all other supers, it depends on the guardian's light. The stronger the light the stronger the golden gun.

                • 1. Probably depends how well-trained they are in the Light, or how much natural talent they have. 2. I may be wrong, but considering that the Golden Gun is a western-style revolver, 6 shots would probably be the max? There are 8 shot revolvers, but usually when people think “revolver”, they think 6 shots. It may also work in the way Celestial Nighthawk works, where the fewer shots there is, the stronger each shot is.

                    • 1. The fact check someone already mentioned. 2. It depends on the Light of the Guardian firing it. It's not exactly the Death Star though.
