WHY should I get Morrowind?

So I finally got a new laptop and would like to play something on it other then old school runescape lol. I know many people say morrowind was the best elder scrolls... but my question is why? What makes it the best.. what about it do you like the best?
i love older games so the graphics don’t bother me
• You got a new laptop? Assuming you have windows 10, don't try to run Morrowind. I have a high end laptop, but even with low settings, I can't run it above 20 fps. It's still playable and enjoyable, but it can be headache inducing.

  • It's decent. MY only beef with the game is its combat system, mainly because it's RNG-based.

  • I enjoyed Oblivion and Skyrim much more than Morrowind tbh.

    • If you've played Oblivion and/or Skyrim, it's kind of cool to see how the game mechanics have changed over time, in terms of things like character progression, and skills. There's way more skills, like each weapon type has it's own associated skill, and the way you level up doesn't have some of the restrictions of the later games, so once you get to know how it works, you can really abuse it and get some huge stat gains, especially once you have lots of gold to throw at skill trainers. Also, if you're at all a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, you'll like it. There's been Lovecraft references and influences in the later games, but with Morrowind, the "Lovecraftiness" was a big part of the main story.

    • Because it's cheap to purchase and any computer can run it? Keep in mind while playing, accuracy and successful magic casting is determined my many factors. Melee accuracy is affected by your agility, your skill level with the weapon you're using, your stamina, your luck, your opponents agility, stamina and luck, if you have extra attack added to you by spell effects (ie. being born under the warrior sign) and how much "sanctuary" the opponent has added by spell effect. Magick is determined by your willpower, intelligence, magic school skill level, stamina, luck and how much willpower, spell resistance, spell reflect, stamina and luck your opponent has. The game operates on old systems of calculations and dice rolls so combat is very old school if that takes your fancy. If you love the Elder Scrolls series, then this game is a piece of history for the franchise as it is the first real 3d open world rendition of an Elder Scrolls game.

That’s where I started with the series but I liked oblivion better. Skyrim goes back and forth with it at second

      • The story didn't hold your hand at all. It was possible to kill essential characters and there were multiple endings. The sidequests were also much better as was the magic system. It's a fantastic game for its time, but don't expect to be floored by it now.

I played it years ago on the PS3. It was fun, but I don't remember it being better than Skyrim. If I remember, the combat was superior. The story was great. All Deadra.

          • No handholding, no pointer where to go.
figure it out by talking to npcs etc
magic without limitations, levitation, crazy jumps etc. also spellcrafting (e.g. combine fireball with soul trap)
costs gold, shows amount of mana needed to cast, so can't do supercrazy until has piles of gold and a deep manapool
Install overhaul3 (mod package) graphics/sound improvements + gameplay tweaks/addons.
hiiiighly recommended https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/36945
