• Panoptes was the Vex with a plan. So Osiris told us to stop him. Literally that's it. Want to hear more crazy explainations. Ghaul was a really big bad who beat up the City, so the Traveler's shard told us to stop him.. Crota had a plan, so Eris told us to get him back Oryx, more plans, we took him out. Now if you want to hear a real story from DLC look at the House of Wolves. A story of betrayal, a leader rising above his shame and failures to try again. Hoping to reclaim a home for his kind. Skolas, Kell of Wolves. BAD MOTHER-blam!-ER. Destined Kell of Kells. Had an Elite squad of deadly fighters, even the Shanks and Dregs could be considered bosses. The Wolves didn't -blam!- around, they meant business. Sady Skolas dies

The vex mind, Panoptes, wanted to reshape the universe starting with the complete transformation of mercury into a machine world. In the opening cinematic, Osiris saw the future where Pinapples succeeded in taking over, a future where the vex take over the universe, or at the very least our solar system. Osiris tossed sagira through a portal so that she could be found and maybe warn somebody of Pocahontas' plan while Osiris attempted to stop it on his own. The first half of the osiris campaign involved our ghost vore-ing sagira and running around and locating Popeye's position in the infinite forests past, so we can destroy it before it begins the whole "revolution." Pantyhose got mad at us and decided to hunt us down through all of mercury's timelines, eventually culminating in the final boss fight where we, as well as osiris's posse, took on Pyongyang. Osiris and his geek squad save us from getting deleted by Pant Pocket and aided us in shooting its eye in order to kill it. With the universe saved, Osiris and his bumbling band of buffoons and the ghost jacker go back to exploring the infinite forest, and our guardians resorted to throwing snowballs at eachother 2 weeks later. Thats the basic summary of the Osiris campaign

    • We, ya know, like stopped a, stopped a Vex cos Ozzie went missing in a Infinite Forest which had no trees in it. And wasn’t Infinite. Then, shot a big ol vex, like one of the other ones we’ve been shooting. Then, oh and we had a new girl ghost, she was pretty useful and not annoying like Nolanbot with his C3PO impression, then um.... Oh, then like, Ozzy and his Ghost left, for continuity purposes. Sheeesh, I’ve no idea actually.

So my understanding of the CoO is this (DISCLAIMER THIS IS ONLY MY INTERPRETATION AND IS NOT CANON): To summarise basically the vex want a future with no light darkness or life only them, what stops the vex is their inability to simulate light which the vex are seemingly learning to do so that they can defeat us and get the future they want but Osiris thinks destroying panoptes (who is in charge of the infinite forest) will stop them from doing this and deny the future they want except at the end Osiris seems to imply it is only temporary and the Vex are likely to find another way and work on it. long version in the spoiler

-The infinite forest is a giant machine of some sort which simulates the past, present and the future along with all potential probabilities, meaning it has lots of timelines. - Osiris enters to study more about the vex and to try and stop them as they are basically a network of mindless puppets trying to achieve the same future, where they win and we are shown that the future is the a world devoid of life, the light and the darkness. - Panoptes runs the infinite forest and therefore can see all potential timelines and seems to be able to use the infinite forest to delete unwanted outcomes and get what they want which is the future previously mentioned, hence all timelines Osiris and his reflections find all lead to the future desired by the vex. - Their main problem is us the guardians as they cannot properly simulate light which means most of our actions and therefore cannot easily delete outcomes when they fight us compared to cabal or fallen. -The vex are now learnign to simulate light more accurately over time with the traveller's awakening and if not stopped early can properly simulate light and kill us easily. -Osiris believes that killing Panoptes will stop them from being able to simulate the light properly and as a result allow us to beat the vex. Hence why he is in the forest chasing him. The more confusing part to me is at the end is when he says something along the lines of "many equations lead to the same solution." Which seems to imply he knows it isn't a permenant fix and the vex will eventually find another way to work on simulating the light, but it does tie in to with the part in the fall of osiris comic where he tells Ikora they will have to fight the vex for longer than forever which my name is byf implies means forever across all of the vex timelines.

• From the game, Panoptes was one mind (the Vex have many with different plans and goals) who wanted to simulate a way for the Vex to win. When the Traveler woke up, one of the paths he had predicted became possible, so activity grew. We are paradoxical within Destiny's universe, they can't simulate us or predict us. So we can stop them without them being able to predict how we would go about it and stop us. We killed Panoptes, thus leaving the mega computer without a nerd behind the computer screen. We prevented them from making further predictions and forced them to work to either gain back control of the Infinite Forest or move on to a different (and more defined) plan. Hope this helps, it's how I took it

          • Don’t worry you aren’t the only one. We have no clue. Somehow someway they found a way to beat or outlive the Dark and Light. Which is pretty major considering back in D1 they couldn’t beat the Darkness, much less both sides. But absolutely zilch is given to us about how they would accomplish this goal. Not a shocker with their lack of storytelling skills so far. In short, it’s a smoke and mirrors plot line. All filler with a few nods to D1 lore but little more than them meeting a deadline for $.

                    • We killed Panoptes, the Vex Mind in charge of the Infinite Forest. At some point in the future he was going to use the Infinite Forest to simulate a way to achieve total convergence. With him dead he won't do that anymore. But wait, the Vex are still using the Infinite Forest anyway? So what did killing Panoptes achieve? I'm confused.

                      • Since Panoptes was the Mind in charge of the Infinite Forest, killing it dealt a huge blow to whatever plans the Vex had with it because now all the knowledge is spread across many small Vex Minds instead of collected in one huge one that can see the entire picture. Apparently Panoptes had been on the verge of discovering a way to obliterate all their enemies whenever we killed it The Vex can recover, and probably will eventually, but we slowed down the Vex in our solar system a great deal (only the ones in our system because all the ones outside are broken up into different groups working out different plans. Compartmentalization)

                      • Fun fact: the last part where you fight panoptes and osiris tells you to strike him in the eye, When you strike, the damage is fixed and you wil have to do it 3 times, pretty shit, if you have not done it yet, strike him with a traveller’s chosen damaged, I’m gonna do that for my titan
