What Bungie did right, and what they did wrong. What is top priority for you?

Random gear and weapon rolls

34

Light level enabled PvP activities

2

Infinite Forest Horde mode

As we all know, Curse of osiris had a fairly shaky launch with most of the community divided between loving and hating it. With this patch that introduced Masterworks, a better reward system, all of the strikes seem to have been updated slightly, Mercury getting vastly more enemies making it a now enjoyable world to kill some time on, was an enormous step in the right direction. But it's still not enough. Some of the activities like Heroic strikes are a tad more intense than their counterparts in Destiny 1, but to me that balances out relatively well taking into account how much grinding we have to do (lack of) in comparison also. To make this game feel like it could possibly hold a candle to the original, I believe there are 3 key elements, or changes, that need to be addressed. This is simply my opinion, from a day one player with over 2500 hours and 100% completion in all areas in D1. 1. Random rolls. This is definitely at the top of the list, and it is certainly what the community is screaming for most. We can deal with the lack of endgame content (which is progressively increasing) IF we have something worth grinding for. Masterworks is but a stepping stone on a long path, that ultimately needs to end in armour and weapons with full random rolls with re-roll capability once again. 2: Level enabled PVP activities I think this one speaks for itself, Iron Banner and Trials of the Nine should be light level enabled. They are meant to be end game content for the players that have already put in a decent amount of hours and are at or near light cap. Catering too much to the casual player damages the endgame experience and sense of achievement significantly for the people who have put in the effort. All PvE activities are light level enabled, specifically so players can progress sensibly. Do the same with PvP 3. Triggered, public activities. The public events in destiny to are a massive improvement over what we were used to in Destiny 1. I'm sure everyone remembers the frustration of tracking warsat events through apps that were less than accurate at the best of times. I can say without a shadow of doubt that the new public event system is one of the best things that Bungie decided to do for its sequel. However, it is simply not enough to keep people hooked long term. Sure, Destiny 1 started out the same, we had 4 expansions that continually added elements and activities to the game like Prison of elders, Archon's Forge, strike modifiers that were actually ENJOYABLE, 4 raids in total etc, and because at the end the veteran players were all used to that large variety of activities they could undertake on a whim, destiny 2 seems like it's lacking a lot of content, when in reality this is how Destiny 1 started out too. So are we the ones having unrealistic expectations in this regard, or should have Bungie considered this and spent more time developing destiny 2 and released it with an abundance of activities from the get go? Anyway, I'm rambling there. My proposition to fix this issue is what has been lurking on forums since Curse of Osiris released: The infinite Forrest Horde Mode This seems like an amazing opportunity that Bungie, somehow, just glanced over. Imagine for a second if you would, what it could have been like: You're on mercury, alone, bored of killing the same high value target endlessly. The first one in that server instance. You head into the infinite forest, boom, you're met with a procedural generating landscape. Excitement starts welling up, uncertain of what is about to take place, suddenly drop ship after drop ship of Fallen rain down, but this is no problem for you, you're a skilled player, you laugh in the face of prestige nightfall, this is child's play. The enemies realise this, their numbers and ranks increase, soon you find yourself overwhelmed with enemies, on the brink of death, you hear a faint teleportation sound from behind, followed by volleys of rockets from the Wardcliff Coil. Two more guardians have just entered the public space with you. The initial wave of enemies is cleared out with ease, you open a chest, you get some region tokens and a blue engram or 2, you move through the forest pathway to the next landscape that is rendered right before your eyes. Now it's Vex. Everyone is positioned strategically, the vex teleport in at unexpected locations forcing you to break ranks, you begin your assault, mercilessly mowing down wave after wave of vex. By this stage a fireteam of three has joined the fray. The game's not stupid, it know's there's 6 players in, it ups the ante yet again, a dozen Captain-level Praetorian's materialise, thankfully everyone had foresight and hasn't squandered their power ammo, you scoff at the challenge laid before you and decimate them along with the remaining forces, haul your loot which might consist of a few paradox amplifiers, some legendary engrams and 3-5 region tokens, and advance through the next forest pathway. etc etc. An endless, public event, triggered at will, that progressively adapts to the players skill and numbers. The longer you last, the bigger the rewards, perhaps stages even have public event like mechanics eg; take the orb, destroy the shields cubes, stand on the plate, time limits, maybe even some platforming puzzles, similar to what you find in Vault of Glass or King's Fall etc, as the stages endlessly increase in difficulty, until your team wipes or the enemie's numbers cease dwindling. If you agree with any of this, please upvote this post and vote in the poll, what you think to be the first issue that should be addressed. I'm sure Bungie has seen many similar posts, but the more we drill it in, the higher chance we have of our desires and expectations for this game come to fruition. Game on Guardians. PS I haven't mentioned Eververse on purpose. Regardless of how people may feel about micro-transactions, they are not the point of my post, please don't discuss them here. Thank you.

  • I don't think they could go more wrong if they tried pvp is dull , dedicated servers needed . Customisation none existent weapons or guardian . The Destiny universe should expand with all content able to be run. The list I have of disappointments is so long it's become pretty clear that Destiny as it is not fun. It's a shame many team mates and community have moved on.

  • As awesome as a Infinite Forest horde mode would be, top priority should be more interesting loot(random rolls).

Suggestion 1 & 2 are good however the 2nd with light enabled is just BullSh*t... It would remove any type of balancing pvp could ever have making it even harder to edit balance. Eververse is a required mechanic of any online game without it prices for season passes would likely double and all it grants is vanity stuff... That said i would very much like to see the infinite forest used more & rng on weapon/armor stat & perks at least for some items you worry about ghosts ? Keep doing the prophecy and next week if you where active you will get that exotic you cried about as they are not only from eververse at least not all of them ;) Take a look at LoL, HotS, Overwatch & WoW all use microtransaction vanity in order to add more content, it is not forced... i have 11.8K spare Bright Dust and didnt buy any silver i even got a wep skin for 1250 dust, a cape for 800 and 7x medallions for 650 yet i still have 11.8k left... no need to ever buy any and the items u want will come on rotation or drop RNG...

  • My two cents on your three points: 1. As much as I enjoy hunting down my own perfect and preferred roll on a weapon, I was pretty annoyed that some of the best ones were locked with Crucible (i.e. The Palindrome, Event Horizon, Hawksaw, Eyasluna) and made it less than exciting to try and do them. But that's just me. I'm fine with static rolls, and Masterworks gives a bit of freedom to modify weapons in a way I might want to, though most will probably want the same perks on weapons boosted. 2. Mostly indifferent on this one. The Light Level different had to be pretty significant to notice any difference, and it might deter people of lower-level gear, but I wouldn't mind too much having this back. It'd probably be more of an annoyance than anything, with Light Level being a factor. 3. YES. I'm a fan of Firefight from the old days of Halo, Prison of Elders in D1, even Resistance in The Division (Which I don't recommend solo), so long as the rewards for surviving a long time and the scaling are both fair. I'd love to see the waves mix swarms of weaker enemies and then launch a wave of a few large enemies to keep everyone on their guard and not waste that Heavy Ammo. My only big problem with this is if someone is alone and nobody ever joins in, which can always happen. And, if this is to happen, I'd like to see a version on every planet. Well, it can be based on Mercury since The Infinite Forest, I think, can simulate any area, so it'd give a nice mix of enemies. Arenas: Earth: Fallen and Hive or Cabal The Moon: Fallen and Hive, some Taken Venus: Fallen and Vex Mars: Cabal and Vex, some Fallen Dreadnaught: Cabal, Hive, and Taken Titan: Fallen and Hive Nessus: Fallen and Vex, some Cabal Io: Cabal, Vex, and Taken

  • Those things listed aren't really a concern for me. Do level advantages really matter when you can just own noobs or is it more about being given a challenge? I'm not a Trials player but I played Iron Banner a lot in Destiny 1. The level advtages being on never bothered me even when I wasn't max light. I think the token system makes getting rewards less exciting, and I'm glad to see strikes and pvp reward some weapons, but they're never amazing. Although I did get Better Devils which I accidentally dismantled a month ago. My biggest disappointment in CoO was that the strikes were the story missions with a bit of different dialogue. I was warned about it but I never realised how bad it could have been. Horde Mode in the Infinite Forest does sound interesting to me but what I would have really wanted was to spend more time in the past and future of Mercury. I kind of wish it was actual time travel so we could experience everything about the environment. The Dark Future needed to be a much harder map too. The heroic adventure there was great but I wanted to feel afraid, I wanted to sneak around and not alert enemy patrols who were difficult to defeat. I guess what I hated was that there was no real story to these places. I know it was a simulated reality but the Vex are advanced, they could have tried to fool us that what we were experiencing was real. The more I think about it the DLC was still a bit bland. What I really want is an abundance of content that doesn't run out too quickly and maybe not to have such simplified game play. We need more puzzles and more doing stuff besides shooting.

    • This is my own opinion we need D1 weapon system back and D1 pvp match mode cause some people just don't like the consent 4v4 we need 6v6 or 8v8 modes now the 4v4 competitive match that would be practice for the trials now we need random rolls on the weapons and armor bring back the intelligence, discipline, strength it can be added to the ones we have already bring back private matched, scoring for the heroic strikes this is just little bit of stuff that I seen on the forums if they bring this stuff to. D2 their players will come back but right now if you look at the loadouts they are the same weapons eveyone has the exact same thing.

      • None of the above. To me, it still goes back to ONE key issue: Separation of PVE from PVP. Bungie is TOO bias towards PVP for this game to be a fun looter/shooter game. So unless they can separate the two, this game is NOTHING more than a traditional PVP-oriented arena shooter game with a bunch of fancy frills. If they won't even admit this is a SERIOUS mistake, then there is no hope of actually addressing the problem in a meaningful way. And without addressing the problem, the game is just going to be more of the same crap on a different day.

        • So Bungie, gamers, trophy hunters. Bungie screwed me hard, that it still hurts. They made it look like the Trophy prestige is still obtainable for trophy hunter, gamers. but this isn't the case. First of all nobody plays the leviathan raid on prestige. i tried the sins the update to find people nobody's wants to do it. Why because it doesn't give better loot and there is a new raid. i contacted playstation and they confirm this isn't the right solution but there hands are tied. it's up to bungie to fix this. a few minutes before the update i defeated the prestige nightfall, but at the last second bam maintenance. When i could play again the level cap was raised to 330, so i bought the season pass to get the trophy. and what did they do they removed the possibility to get it in prestige nightfall. now you can only get it, if you get people to do a prestige raid just for you. to get a trophy. you created a bigger problem, bungie are you going to help me? are you going to get a team together for me so i can get my trophy? for gods sake for once really fix a problem! It's easy to fix change the trophy description back to complete a prestige nightfall or the prestige leviathan raid. i tried all day to find a team you woudn't believe how hard it is to find a team that is willing to do the raid on prestige. or to find 5 people that wanna do help. Bungie you removed the best way to get the trophy, you made it unfair and also impossible for people to get it. do you really believe new players or players that don't have the trophy wanna do a endless search for people that wanna do the raid on prestige? just add complete a prestige nightfall back. you fixt the bell ring trophy in Destiny 1, so i know you can fix this too.

I disagree. I don't like Random Rolls when you can't modify weapons however you want. Its only ok as a supplement to Crafting, take Fallout 4's crafting for example. I don't like Power levels. I don't need 'Powerful' gear to make me feel powerful. I want enemies that are always relevant, like a Real FPS. I want guns that are always relevant too. Power level is unnecessary gating, and MMO progression in a game that isn't subscription based. There is no monetary reason to make people play longer. Quality > Quantity. I would like Firepower to be favored over 'Power level'. When 1 Guardian isn't enough, get 3, or 10. For this game as it is, I think the more activities, the better. Full stop. However the do it depends on whether or not it is truly fun. For me, I want a game that doesn't put arbitrary boundaries in place that kill you for stepping outside of them. I want to go to the other side of the lake on the EDZ. I want to go inside the Arcology on Titan. I want to drive my Sparrow on the Moon, and around the Pylons on Mercury. I don't want to be teased, I want to explore. The exploration part of Destiny has never been there. The 'real' enemies have never been there. Its MMO like in terms of AI and zone population, but its a FPS and together that feels wrong.

          • I'm still shocked that random rolls masked the lack of content for so many people.

          • One and two aren't going to happen....and three is unlikely to happen because Bungie seems to have a bias against "unstructured" content like horde modes. They just don't want make them for some reason. They seem to think everything has to have a structured beginning, middle and end.

I think they should stop raining in weapons and white washing the game so PVP players can be happy with the fairness factor in The Crucible. I think they could fix this and bring the fun back by just black boxing or Banning certain weapons just for PVP sake. That way they can bring back the Epic incredibly fun weapons from Destiny 1 and stop making Destiny 2 feel so tame. Also I think they should bring back things like prison of Elders instead of letting all the content from Destiny 1 just sit on the Shelf. I think a lot of that old content could easily be made relevant again without any elaborate story arc. I think those two things could really pull bungie out of the rut that it's in right now.

            • Let's say -blam!- pvp balance, like they can handle it anyways. Expand the mod system, more perks etc so we can make the guns more fun. Atm everything is the same bland sauce.
also, they should remove them from eververse
