I "THINK" I understand Destiny 2 and the negativity.

I have been looking at the forums and I have noticed lots of Negative comments and few positive comments about many things, just so I could find out what the big deal was behind both sides, and some things I found out from my own experience and from reviewers so this is what I understand so far. First let me say that I am not a newb to Bungie, FPS's, MMO's, and what endgame means. I understand the difference between a proper grind and an improper grind. I also know the difference between PVE and PVP, balancing, progressing and feeling like you are, and the difference between DLC and an Expansion. Which brings me to this, I am a newb to the Destiny universe (I say this a lot for understanding). I did not play Destiny 1 and I play on PC, and from my experience Destiny 2 is a very fun game, and the story is good (it could have used more enticement). But as I played, and got farther, and leveled I started to ask my self, "why and I doing this"? This was very strange to me. There did not seem to be a reason to do anything. I feel a reason in HALO, WOW (had it's problems in the beginning and got better), ESO (started of like crap, I stayed with it and it's great now and getting better), ZELDA, and even MARIO LOL. But why not this? I like the game a lot but it feels empty. But what's funny is, I really want to like this game, that might seem weird lol, does it? And on a side note for those that don't know. The Activision/Bungie contract states that the game (Destiny) must have "mmo like" game play and that there will be a Destiny 1, Destiny 2, Destiny 3 and Destiny 4 over the course of 10 years. This is not an exact quote, I'm just summing it up. I left a link for the exact info for anyone who wants it. Those might not be the official names but seeing that Destiny 2 is called Destiny 2 the others may follow suit. http://documents.latimes.com/bungie-activision-contract/ https://www.gamespot.com/articles/is-destiny-an-mmo-bungie-weighs-in/1100-6416234/ Lol even Bungie stated they like the debate about it being and MMO or not and well.........technically it is (especially since they are about to add some form of crafting). Anyway this is what I gather, or "think" I understand. Destiny 1 was good but it started off like crap, which is understandable for something new. The game progressively got better and the community was happy as the game got better. They (Bungie) fixed many issues and problems with the game over the course of 3 years. So seeing that the crap was fix up, you/we as a player would naturally expect good things from Destiny 2. Destiny 2 comes out and they (Bungie) took away the fixes, made some tweeks, and left the crap as if to start over. And left the crap unfinished seeing as an Expansion (mini) - (more like DLC) is coming out fairly shortly. And with this new expanion there is not a new raid but a "Lair", or smaller part/location to an existing raid (which is not uncommon btw), and it's coming out around the corner (soon) and it's not free? I got his on October 24 and the next piece comes out December 5. What do you think? I honestly want to continue but I'm not sure. This seems to be the gist of what I "think" I understand. So please let me know, is this right? And should I buy the Expansion Pass? Or better yet would you?
