I am quite certain you do not even know the difference between hosting solutions... I am sorry to break it to ya but the choice Bungie went with is actually the overall best possible for a game such as this. If they went and blew out their brain just to follow your "suggestion" the game would be a mess... If they had dedicated servers you would be far more likely to be influenced by DDOS than the current and the fact you claim this points out how little you know in regards to hosting... Let me break it to ya kiddo... you cannot truly protect against DDOS and that is a well known fact... all you can do is limit the effect of it depending on the scale.

  • You can't be serious that the P2P configuration is better than dedicated servers? (Disregarding DDOS).

  • Hahaha, listen, I know what I need to know. Peer to peer was made for 1v1 fighting games and co-op games in the first place, until call of duty introduced it to modern warfare 2 and all the shitty companies desperate to save up their moneys decided to fall in line. There is literally no excuse for having peer to peer in a fast paced FPS game. I am quite certain you don't understand the benefits of dedicated versus peer to peer connections. The pros far outweigh the cons. Every single reputable PvP game deployed dedicated servers after how much the community was begging for it. Is this the first FPS game you ever played on PC? If not then you should know how much the FPS community hates peer to peer and their reasons for it. Bungie not implementing dedicated servers for PvP means this game most certainly won't be taken seriously by anyone who isn't a moron and just accepts shitty business practices. I understand that peer to peer is perfect for the non PvP parts of the game, but not having dedicated servers for PvP is unacceptable and it's only a desperate business attempt to not spend extra money.
Bungie went with is actually the overall best possible for a game such as this
Yes, for PvE, but not for PvP.

  • Peer-to-Peer was indeed originally for 1 to 1 communication indeed however it is used for a lot more than that. In this case it allows people to play ata balanced latency which is equally beneficial to all while a dedicated might be 20 ms for some and 120ms for others depending on location. Dedicated would be more beneficial for PvE due to spawn mechanics while in PvP you need to have people play on an equal playing field. Additionally you claim "ddos" is an issue... do you even know what ddos is ? at most normal people get Smurf'ed and only if they play on a server who hosts something do they risk being subject to DDOS... DDOS is many things but it is only truly called DDOS when it is a dedicated attack. If they had servers it would be far easier to be affected by DDOS and it would cost a fortune to implement filter's & procedures to minimize the effect of DDOS... If you want to i can advice you to some decent courses in networking or even point out spots to learn some basics for free... Modern Warfare & Destiny 2 are fundamentally different so you cannot really compare them... it is like comparing a banana with an apple...

Holy shit, I think I have brain cancer after reading your answer, you are the typical case of talking out of your ass. It's clear you're not up do date with anything my friend. Go read some competitive fps forums to understand why peer to peer is trash for anything PvP related and why every single game nowadays switched over to dedicated servers. Peer to peer might seem beneficial on paper, but it is not in practice. Whatever, do your research i'm not here to enlighten you One more thing, ddos is a problem, because you can easily get the IP of every single player in a match, then use this info to launch a dos attack, timing them out in the process, winning the match for free. Since you already don't seem to grasp the concept of this, i'm not willing to argue with you, because you clearly have no idea what you are talking about Just in case you still cannot comprehend what the problem is, read this reddit post, also go through the comments
