It could potentially be a connection issue. Sometimes borderline connections seem to shut down on social items (voice communication, sometimes even friends lists) just to keep the rest of the connection going.

So I have just an Xfinity router modem...would u recommend doing the bridge setup with an aftermarket router?

That can cause a cone NAT situation. Essentially, think of it as translating a block of text in google translate to a new language, then taking the new language output and sending it through translate again to a third language. Each translation causes some errors due to syntax/turn of phrase, and you end up with a bit of gibberish by the third language.
