Please Replace the Hunters Class Ability. (Or at least buff it)

Or just make it not complete garbage. It's not that good. Yes it fits the "lone wolf" attitude Hunters are supposed to have, but it's horrible for team play. The dodge ability should just be a "hidden" ability given to all Hunter subclasses, while replacing the global class ability. (I'm not taking credit for this idea, but I saw it on Reddit and definitely agreed with it) The class ability should be the "Vanish in Smoke" bomb from the Nightstalker. It would: A) Make all players in the radius go invisible while reloading their guns Or B) Invisibility lasts longer and won't break when shooting a weapon. This would still fit the lore and attitude of the Hunter while providing the Hunters with a team based ability. Please Bungie, Please. Edit: A lot of people have responded saying, "No. Keep dodge but just make it more powerful.". I'm certainly not opposed to that. I just wanted to make a suggestion that better fit team-play and hunters roles as a "DPS" class.

  • It'd be cool to see groupwide ability that boosts crit damage multiplier for a short time. I.E. instead of doing 1.5x crit damage, it'd give you 2.5x for a short time. Hunters are typically the "assassin" build that focuses on crits in most games. I truly don't even know if Bungie knows what their own vision for the class is. It's not damage, it's not stealth anymore, it's not speed. It's just kind of there while Warlock and Titan have clearly defined niches.

  • Make the hunter ability have a longer cooldown and Grant near by teammates a reload with a clip of ammo that deals precision damage or something. This would promote the hunter class for group play in pve and would combo well with the other two class abilities. People always claim hunter to be the 'dps' class (yet they currently lack any damage boosting capability). Warlock currently have the team dps class ability AND healing ability. Titans provide the wall, and hunters reload their own gun. As it stands hunters don't simply do more dps and don't have a defined pve roll compared to Warlock and titan right now. I think the above suggestion would help them fit that dps roll everyone claims/wants them to be and would make fireteams not want to embark on a strike or raid without one.

    I main a Titan. I agree that the Hunter ability could use a buff for sure. Personally, I think the dodge is a bit weak for their whole class ability. I'd give it to them as an ability they can all use, but put it on an internal cooldown (likely shown as a debuff like Icarus Dodge). Class power would be something like "Agility" that is "Hold crouch to gain XYZ." If you want them to be helpful to the team, just say... Assassin's Agility - Animation would throw a smoke bomb at their feet and turn them and nearby allies invisible for a short time. Possibly also paired up with bonus melee damage, but that might be a bit much. Ranger's Agility - Animation would be them pointing forward to direct fire or something. Grants them and nearby allies bonus precision damage for a short time. During this time, their dodge can be used without incurring the debuff, allowing them to use it at will. Something like that. Supports them and keeps them as the more lone wolf class, but also helps them act as scout and infiltration team experts. Kinda just talking off the top of my head, though, so I dunno.

  • I was thinking about this more and they should make it so when the Hunter uses dodge, he goes stealth. This would stop enemies in PVE from shooting you and be viable in PVP if enemies are in your face, you have a chance for an outplay rather than being a target for the entire animation of the roll.

    • I love the fact that these hunter mains are upset because they feel weak in "pve" when you know damn well they mad cuz hunters aren't easy mode in crucible now haha Better git gud

        It baffles me how people keep saying the hunter is the dps class. The titan rally barricade is miles ahead. Duck once reload. That works for every person on the team and your next barricade is already cooling down while your current one is active. Heck if you're concerned about it breaking can always duck and get away from it and then come back for the instant reload. Rinse and repeat. The way the hunter ability is now it's beyond a joke. It's pathetic and very annoying that bungo looked at all the class abilities and thought "yeah the dodge is fine despite the fact that the titan has something almost similar in the effects but works better".

      • I think what they should do is keep the class ablitly and it's perks exactly the same, but, either greatly reduce the ability cool down from what it currently is, or add an additional charge

      • Melee, dodge, Melee Or Shoot, dodge, insta reload shoot more Intended to have more burst dps than titan and warlock. Also best light orb farmer right now allowing titan to save light for bubble shield in raids.

      • Bungie should've made unique subclass perks for the class abilities. Warlocks got awesome perks for their rift, titans got great perks for their barricade, but hunters got perks that feel like they were thrown in at the last minute without any imagination applied to their creation.

      • Hopefully the void hunter has some support abilities. I play Hunter probably less than the other two so, this really doesn't effect me, but I could see groups forming that require Warlock or Titan only.

          The ability just needs an additional dodge withing the charge. So you can do alot more burst damage since that's the main goal of it. Meaning unload your weapon, dodge unload your weapon, dodge unload your weapon. Or melee, dodge, melee dodge, melee. The mechanic is fine but it's terrible compared to extra damage, healing, or creating your own walls and cover.

            It seems that Bungie has a knack for removing abilities from the classes and placing them into exotics (i.e. astrocyte verse). But this time there taking the ability from the graviton forfeit and imputing it directly into the class abilities. Granted it was only accessible to only one subclass its nice to see they are adding abilities along with making the subclass more streamlined. Although I do have to agree that reloading your weapon or instantly regenerating your melee ability on preforming the dodge roll is near useless and just redundant.

          • Markmans dodge: Reloads weapon when dodge and grands a small weapon stability and a better weapon handling( QuickDraw) for you and nearby guardians for a short time Gamblers dodge: Refills melee and you drop a smoke bomb(not the poison) that disorient enemy's when dodge near them Something like that please

            • If I recall people wanted to use shadestep across all the hunter subclasses. You got that and it gives more of a bonus than it did in D1. Also, you want the hunter to have support abilities? Hahahaha, no. That's not what the hunter class is. The whole idea of hunters is that they don't rely on anybody and vice versa. If your not happy with a lone wolf type play style switch to a titan or warlock if you want to help your team.

                • I didn't play as hunter much but the ability helped me a ton in pvp. Especially in 1v2 engagements, I'd finish off the first guy, twirl into cover and pop out to kill the next. Not having to reload in those instances was a huge advantage
