The Biggest issue facing gaming.

Gaming at it's core is supposed to be fun however, corporate greed (Countless DLCs that lock people out of the game and appealing to the lowest common denominator) and elitism from gamers themselves is killing our hobby. Almost every game is "you must have this piece of gear or we won't even talk to you", or "you must have a positive K/D". Well let me tell you a secret, K/D doesn't matter on it's own. It's a worthless stat. It's only an indicator of skill if you're also pushing the objective. (Something that nobody does anymore)
Plus the sniper hoards are a huge turn off to new players, so if you see that your team has twenty snipers, maybe you should try something new! Play as a medic or a support class!

I would argue that a player who keeps a point held or is resupplying their team is more important than even the best K/D ratio, it keeps matches moving and keep things fun for everyone. In other words: Play the objective!!!
As far as gear elitism goes, we shouldn't be ruining peoples gaming experiences by requiring they have a certain item, I've talked to many old friends and asked "why did you quit Destiny?" or "why did you quit Elder Scrolls?" And the answer is almost always "nobody would do anything with me because I didn't have "X" piece of gear" We need to start treating new players better, we need to remember that our hobby is meant to be fun, not a frustrating match spent camping the same corner miles away from the objective, so in conclusion: Get out there and for god's sake, play the objective!

  • I'll give you the dlc point, to a point. K/d also does matter. The more time you spend dead the less time you spend ptfo. Also, gear score does matter to a point. A lot of end game activities require better gear score in order to do well. If anything I'd replace those two things with elitism.

      • It's pretty sad that even this late in destiny's lifespan, there's still gear elitists on the lfg forums, although they're more light elitists now. Which is pretty stupid seeing as there's really no difference between a 395 and a 400 apart from the number. Dlc in gaming can also be a blessing or a curse. It can be a blessing if it's a cool addition to an already substantial game, as it gives you more time with that game, but it can also be scummy if it feels like you're being sold a piecemeal game, where it seems like there's no reason the dlc couldn't have been in the game to begin with.

              • It's the goddamn MLG leagues and shit give us over simplified and just bleh maps. Then the other extreme throws competition out the window. We need some old school Halo where it's competitive but not bleeding MLG

                  • My time is limited. It will not be spent running some idiot and his magicka werewolf bow build nord sorcerer with a blue tank set through a vet dungeon. And yes that describes about 90% of the randoms on eso.

                    • Show me the word "fun" in competitive gaming. It's all about competition, you play to win. Sure they have social matches and the like but all in all its multiplayer, you playing against other competent players. I do agree they k/d is meaningless unless it's straight tdm, but even then there's a lot of teamwork involved if you're playing with the right people. Some people can spot others leading to a point for your team and nothing for your stats. Some games have good assists which don't matter when it's straight k/d. If you really want to play competitively, play with the same people or friends. If you're matching up against randoms in multiplayer, you have no room to talk about stats. I remember halo 3 MLG. Those guys stuck right around a 1.0 KD because they were matched with players of the same skill. If you have a k/d of 4.0 you are obviously playing unskilled players and have no room to talk about your stats.

                        • Totally...people wanting to be competitive is ruining gaming. It's not companies like Gubisoft shafting their players with smart phone game practices. People hopping on hate trains with no context or even idea of what they're actually doing. People love a broke ass game like For Honor but hated Evolve because "it's pay to win with micro transactions" even though all of it was cosmetic. Issue is people aren't informed anymore about the companies or games they purchase

                          • The biggest issue I am facing with gaming right now is a lack of good games, or rather games I want to play. It seems everyone is focused on hardware rather than what is on the hardware.
There is a reason the only new game I've bought in the last 6 months is Breath of the Wild. I did buy some old games as well, but that is besides the point.
•
Gaming at it's core is supposed to be fun however, corporate greed (Countless DLCs that lock people out of the game and appealing to the lowest common denominator) and elitism from gamers themselves is killing our hobby.
corporate greed isn't killing games for me. I don't buy dlc for most games I own and still enjoy them a lot. As for elitism I don't actually see it often.
Almost every game is "you must have this piece of gear or we won't even talk to you", or "you must have a positive K/D".
I don't run into this problem with any game except Destiny, even then I have friends so I'm not looking for randoms. As for K/D then you should stop being an idiot and actually try to get gud. If someone can't pull their own weight at a job, then I'm not gonna wanna work with them as I'd have to do extra work to make up for their own incompetence.
Well let me tell you a secret, K/D doesn't matter on it's own. It's a worthless stat. It's only an indicator of skill if you're also pushing the objective. (Something that nobody does anymore)
false, you're not helping your team if you're running straight into the objective just to die. Sure, you my break the objective for 5 seconds, but the other 5 people will kill you quick and retake it anyway because you chose not to wait. K/D matters, it doesn't have to be super elite level, but it should be over 1.1.
I would argue that a player who keeps a point held or is resupplying their team is more important than even the best K/D ratio, it keeps matches moving and keep things fun for everyone. In other words: Play the objective!!!
I can resupply, revive, heal, kill, defend, and attack, all while having a good k/d.
As far as gear elitism goes, we shouldn't be ruining peoples gaming experiences by requiring they have a certain item, I've talked to many old friends and asked "why did you quit Destiny?" or "why did you quit Elder Scrolls?" And the answer is almost always "nobody would do anything with me because I didn't have "X" piece of gear"
so you're saying people should ruin their own experience by catering to people they don't know. Again, if I'm hiring someone then I'm going to need them to have the proper skills, experience, or tools. I'm not hiring someone who can't do their part.
We need to start treating new players better, we need to remember that our hobby is meant to be fun, not a frustrating match spent camping the same corner miles away from the objective, so in conclusion: Get out there and for god's sake, play the objective!
we can't baby people forever. Everyone needs to learn. -I can't tell if this post is about corporate greed. -Elitism -PTFO'ing Or something else. It's all over the place.

That's a dumb reason to quit ESO. It has trading and crafting. Just get materials and craft it, or pay someone to craft it for you.

                                  • I agree K/D doesn't matter unless it's a team Deathmatch mode. As far as gear stats exclusion and whatever, I kinda get it. In most games like that, there are other missions or quests for lower level players to do before the higher tiered ones. So I would be kinda annoyed if I was trying to do a high tier quest with people and then this level 10 comes in thinking he has a chance. I wouldn't be an ass to him, but I wouldn't want him there either

                                    • This doesn't exactly pertain to the overall thread but anyway...is ESO really that bad?. I've heard about ppl getting kick from dungeons etc for being low level but seeing as I get in 4-5 a day or as often as I try and I get put in with. Lvl *600's when I'm measly 45 (been doing dungeons on and off since lvl 30sh.) and have yet to be kicked from a single one. Maybe I've just had good luck and nice players?. For me what's killing games (at least FPS ones.) is the amount of 'Sweat' involved everyone HAS GOT TO WIN!!. I mean winning is great and all but no one seems to play for enjoyment anymore. It makes playing some games feel like a second job rather then an enjoyable hobby.

                                      • Then switch over to single player games if multiplayer games are being ruined for you. Nobody can kick you or tell you don't have the right gear in The Witcher, or Mass Effect or Dragon Age or any of the other billion single player game out there.

                                        • EA/Dice games are starting to realize the dlc is kinda dropping their player base hard by separating the community they tried now doing Premium friends thing where season pass holders can bring friends into dlcs And now removing the season pass from battlefront

                                          • Today's problem with gaming is that people make games that they know will sell based on numbers; games are no longer a labor of love, they're a product.
