Of course a Canadian would hate hip-hop, not enough maple syrup I guess.

I love this xd

ahh the typical edgy non popular kid response

Hip hop aka rap is the last creative music form left. True hip hop not this mumble rap shit has been giving beats and lyrics to artist of every genre for the last 10 years if there was no hip hop most of the songs you like probably wouldn't have ever been produced.
-
I listen to Kansas, AC/DC, Guns n roses, and Van Halen. I highly doubt rap influenced them.
-
Majority of their songs were written and produced a lot longer than 10 years ago
-
I think that was the point!
-
What'd you say about listening to biggie?
-
Some pop is alright in my opinion but most makes my ears want to die.
-
There are a few good pop songs, but they are all alt rock.
-
That's close minded, there are so many good rap acts out there. Try Run the Jewels, they perfectly mix fun songs and conscious hip-hop.

Edited by LowwoulKnown: 3/28/2017 3:34:27 AMI'd recommend checking out Aesop Rock before you diss the entirety of hip-hop. One of the cleverer lyricists alive
-
Wha.....wha.....what? I've never met anyone else online that knew who he was. Listened to Labor Days on the way into work today
-
You're joking, he has a big following online. You simply don't make "Daylight" and not be highly regarded in the music industry. That song is just incredible.
You're joking, he has a big following online. You simply don't make "Daylight" and not be highly regarded in the music industry. That song is just incredible.
You're right, I made it all up, he's all I ever see anyone talking about........... /s I remember a coworker brought in a copy of the magazine The Source. The feature was the however many best artists of hip hop of all time. All time, seriously. Float, Labor Days, Daylight, Bazooka Tooth were all out at that point yet Aesop Rock was nowhere on the list. But ya know who was in the top 5? People like Lil Wayne.
OF ALL TIME
-
Edited by The Cellar Door: 3/29/2017 2:39:41 PMWell, I would argue that Lil Wayne does in fact deserve at the very minimum, a top 10 spot. I mean, he literally controlled hip-hop for a period of time, he released a minimum (depends on who you talk to) of 2 classics which were pivotal in the progression of hip-hop (Carter 2, Carter 3), and he changed how hip-hop artists released their music. I also wouldn't call Aesop Rock a top 10 hip-hop artist. A large part of the hip-hop genre is reception. It is by choice that he doesn't get in those top 5 lists, because he doesn't make music to be very receptive, but rather to show off his lyricism. I'll call him top 3 lyricists of all time without even thinking about it, but there is far more to the hip-hop genre than esoteric lyrics which paint some abstract picture.
-
Well, I would argue most of Aesop Rock's songs are not abstract at all and that saying Lil Wayne selling a lot of records doesn't mean anything in the way of being 'one of the greatest artists of all time'. I mean Hanson sold a lot, too, no one considers them one of the greatest rock bands of all time. But to each their own. It's all love.
-
Edited by The Cellar Door: 3/30/2017 2:03:54 AMWell, it's not just Lil Wayne's sales, it's the fact that he was such an influential and pivotal figure in hip-hop during the early 2000's. And even Aesop recognizes the hypocritical nature of created music for people while also being overly esoteric and "anti-radio," I mean, that was a common theme in The Impossible Kid. Not that he doesn't have songs which is his being more direct with the listener, but the majority of his music is as such. And of course, music is subjective.
-
Edited by Catty_Wampus22: 3/30/2017 6:16:19 AMYeah, it is subjective, I just don't see people Like Lil Wayne and Notorious BIG as two of the greatest. I think Aesop Rock is an artist, Lil Wayne is a clown. One wants to make music, the other wants to be rich and famous.

Edited by GG ALLIN RIP: 3/28/2017 11:34:13 AMWhat? Dude he's been around for about 17 years. I've aged with that dude. We're about the same age. If few people here haven't heard of him it's likely because they're kids. Speaking of kids.. Check out "Impossible kid" if you haven't yet. It's sick.

Good man, I've been listening to him for years now. Been listening to a lot of the album Float recently. Man, I found out my friend knew about a show he was doing in my area a couple months back (along with a bunch of other Rhymesayers) and he didn't even tell me. He didn't go because he had work, so

Edited by Catty_Wampus22: 3/28/2017 11:56:01 AMThat sucks. I saw him back in the day on the Labor Days, Bazooka Tooth and None Shall Passtours with some other Def Jux artists (El-P, Cannibal Ox, Mr Lif, The Perceptionists, RJD2.....) Float is a great album, Basic Cable is probably my favorite from it.
