best thing ever said

So a fellow Guardian named Boobel commented this on a post. I just wanted to post it. "There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors. Year 1 was good. Like if you played the alpha, and the beta, and year 1, you are aware of the reason for the anger that fills the forum now. A lot of folk may dismiss this, but if you did it, you know. You had a nightfall that when you were launching in, you were a tad nervous. Because you knew you could spend an hour or so trying, just to lose it all very fast, and be booted to orbit. The sense of achievement when you completed it was excellent. The rewards were good too. You would run the raid, and be ecstatic to receive the VOC. Then, you do Atheon over, and over, and eventually, the Vex Mythoclast dropped. And the grind just is SO worth it. You'd relive the moment with destiny pals when they saw you had it. Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded. We saw parts of the cosmodrome that were locked away. DLC. But already on the disc. Then year 2 arrived. And it started to feel like the best parts of the game were slowly being removed. We were told by Bungie that we were playing the game wrong. They had perks on guns, and when we used them effectively, all within the realms of the game, we were told we were using them wrong. Then we started to feel the affects of nerfing. Guns which we had worked so hard to get, became useless. The variety of weapons available was still big, but nerfs forced players to use very few. auto rifles started to fade, our game was being directed by the requests of the supplementary PvP aspect of the game. Updates came that meant previous content we paid for, was made useless. Game modes that are supposed to encourage team work in pve were forgotten. You aren't allowed raid matchmaking but, we shall matchmake you a pvp session with 11 people from all over the world resulting in a terrible experience. We won't matchmake nightfall, because you might get someone who is bad. That's better than no matchmaking right. Then, we got told previous gen was holding back vault space. Then, luke Smith tells us we are playing his game wrong, but we're going to throw money at the screen anyway. And there's way more to kingsfall. 0,4% auto rifle. What's VOG again? Who is Crota? Trials further toxicated the game. Bungie based game updates on trials. YouTube streamers. The community was ignored. The game grew towards trials, bungie pandered to this, pve got a few more stabs in the back. Lag switching. Bungie didn't seem fussed. We became iron Lords, and we were happy for a bit. That mountaintop. That raid. But it fizzled. More nerfs. Friends list didn't show Destiny as much. The last gen vault space limitations seemed a lie. It didn't increase when last gen wasn't included. Shotguns. Matador. Heavy ammo. Special ammo. Then Age of Triumph. Bungie thank us for participating in a 3 year beta, and begrudgingly make year 1 relevant again with some new year 2, but on their terms. Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead. Destiny was failed a lot on petty little stuff, stuff that folk meddled with, that was in reality, doing ok. And there wasn't more to kingsfall. If Destiny 2 can avoid the blindingly obvious mistakes that happened over the last 3 years, they could have a fantastic game in the making." Edit: Thanks for all the replies guardians! Edit 2: Whoa this is trending. Never been up here before, and it wasn't even my own words lol Edit 3: Number 1 trending. Wow. Thanks for everyone who liked and commented! Edit 4: Thank you all for the amazing posts! I'm glad people know how good this game could be. How good it should be. UPDATE! NEW WORDS BY BOOBEL!! "Thanks for highlighting my post. The fact that so many other players are in agreement does give credit to what I said. I expected people to say I was wrong etc, however we are entitled to our opinions. Maybe these are the people who forget that the game was never sold as being a pvp game. They clearly told us it was a pve game, with optional pvp. We also were told that a day one weapon would be relevant to whatever direction the game took. They aggravated people by completely doing a u turn on this, leaving many stuck at 170. If people feel it necessary to repost what I said, this to me just gives further evidence we agree. It's then funny to note that people said my observations of Y1 is the result of rosetinting, and I was wrong. I'm that wrong, that they are making raids relevant again, bringing back older weapons. They also have made AR better again, after the pvp nerds rendered them useless. It is also funny that people are assuming I'm wholly praising year 1, when I simply listed, in time order, things that I remembered from the top of my head. All of the points I made, weren't borne from negativity. They actually happened. So if you choose to focus on one aspect of my comments, rather than the whole post, you'll fail to see I simply pointed out what was done incorrectly, or things that were done that resulted in a poor experience. I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed." Edit 5: OVER 500 UPVOTES! Dang, is this a record or something? Someone has to know. Edit 6: Over 600 upvotes. Dang Edit 7: 700 UPVOTES BABY!

    • I'm a Vanilla player and I am completely in agreement. In year 1, everything felt so rewarding. The grind for me was satisfying. Getting the Broken Truth-LR1 was actually exciting, since Legendary gear was actually rare then, and getting exotics was that but ten times better. But now it just isn't satisfying anymore and I'm hoping that Bungie knows this as they work on Destiny 2.
bazinga
• I think Destiny is better now. More variety. Every single person was rocking the same raid weapons and armour. Once you take away elemental primaries, basically any weapon is a viable alternative.

          • I haven't posted or played destiny since mid year 2 but everything you said and all the examples of their past mistakes are spot on. In my opinion HoW was the best time for destiny, everything was viable, all the raids, the POE for all the crap it got for not being a raid was honestly fun and different, and trials wasn't crappy yet... I get nostalgic just thinking about it

                    • I agree with this. And id like to add.... Who the hell cares about elemental primaries lol if they are legendary ok then cool. But they arent worth a slot if they are exotic to me. Enemy shields arent that bad and i dont see them being useful in pvp lol. Not woth the exotic slot and i dont have enough vault space anyways lol. They need to make raid weapon collections kiosks. Simple fix for vault space

I have mentioned this repeatedly, but I'll sum it up with by saying this, "Destiny was never terrible, but had so much potential that was never reached and I choose to look past it and play an amazing game; then it suffered a slow death by a thousand cuts (read "nerfs")." Some of my observations: Year 1 (Vanilla) was grindy, but rewarded you well for your effort and everything seemed relevant even if it was considered overpowered, but everything was based as a PvE game. Year 1 also had enemies that had a lot of health so powerful weapons were a must! Perks on weapons and gear also provided useful benefits and made you think about what to equip. Year 1 also was a great introduction into the Destiny universe even if the story (what story?) was lacking. The lore was terrific, but was mostly left out only really being present in Grimoire cards. Most people looked past it and played the game for what it was, even if it felt incomplete. (I bought half a game?) The Dark Below added more, but also added a lot less with the first real nerfs to auto-rifles and fusions. The overall experience was fun, but was frustrating in the fact that it really only added a quick Raid and exotics had to be upgraded again. The House of Wolves brought everything together in a neat bow by allowing everything to be upgraded and made relevant. PvP and PvE both were relevant as well and Trials arrived which was fun, but also showed the beginning of a trend of PvP focus. The enemies and weapons all felt solid, but the addition of a semi-horde mode felt lackluster even though it was different. Year 2 The Taken King, finally brought a good big bad and more quality lore. It made Year 1 irrelevant with the mandatory retirement of hard earned gear, which felt like a betrayal. Exotics became a dime a dozen and besides being unique became less useful than legendaries. Infusion was nice, but flawed. Elemental primaries were removed for balance purposes, but only contributed to rewards from activities feeling underwhelming. Besides the oppressive atmosphere that accompanied Oryx, the lack of direction on Bungie's part only contributed to player frustration. Finally Year 3 arrived, the so titled Rise of Iron which finally got something right with story and relatable characters, but it came across as too little, too late. It also felt short and a rehash of ideas that didn't make it into the other expansions. Weapon balance only lead to further nerfs based around PvP making PvE suffer as a result. Friends that once played seemed to disappear and weapons felt worthless. The icing on the cake should have been becoming an Iron Lord, but even that was unrewarding. Destiny 2 is around the corner as well Age of Triumph, but by this time I feel a little "meh" about everything, even if Bungie has "fixed" every little problem... I just wish this wasn't the case... Sorry for the text wall! Just voicing my opinions, for the record... Thanks for reading, Guardians!

                        • Bungie only has so much control on the game. If Activision feels a push for PvP, then Bungie has to cater to PvP. If Activision feels more players will return with a reintroduction of PvE, then Bungie will cater to that. This isn't Bungie's game or vision anymore. They lost that when they signed with a corporation that caters to current-profit structures in the market. The tease we saw of a new open idea in Halo: ODST is gone. This game will be sold and catered to younger targeted audiences that don't relate to what Bungie originally envisioned. Bungie lost a good writer who understood the struggles of differentiating bullets from fiction. He gave us Cortana, he gave us master chief, he gave us our ghost.... to only release it to a community manager who discredited Halo 2 for its faults while working for another company. Bungie doesn't have the vision they once had to lead us into a separate gaming experience. They are simply acting as puppets for a production company who is using COD based marketing tactics for max profit. Will Destiny 2 be a good game? Most likely But it won't engulf us with content that we've all wanted since Destiny's initial release because the game is not catered to that idea anymore. We will be granted a nice visual of graphics, cut scenes, and a basic story that will take a few hours to complete.

                            • I've been playing since the first queens wrath (the one a few weeks after launch). I understand the frustration that people have but to say that year one was this games peak is a bit of a stretch to me. Yeah I was upset when my all of my VOG weapons became obsolete, but by the end of year one I was soloing nightfalls in under 30 mins (and I'm a filthy filthy casual). I didn't know a thing about destiny before I bought it on a whim, the selling point for me was that it was a game that was supposed to evolve and change over a long time span, which is exactly what it did. Personally I enjoyed the challenge of reaching the level of OP I was by the end of year one, over and over again.

I feel like most players don't really want to be civilised and talk about problems they're having with the game, but instead just hurl insults.
