best thing ever said

So a fellow Guardian named Boobel commented this on a post. I just wanted to post it. "There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors. Year 1 was good. Like if you played the alpha, and the beta, and year 1, you are aware of the reason for the anger that fills the forum now. A lot of folk may dismiss this, but if you did it, you know. You had a nightfall that when you were launching in, you were a tad nervous. Because you knew you could spend an hour or so trying, just to lose it all very fast, and be booted to orbit. The sense of achievement when you completed it was excellent. The rewards were good too. You would run the raid, and be ecstatic to receive the VOC. Then, you do Atheon over, and over, and eventually, the Vex Mythoclast dropped. And the grind just is SO worth it. You'd relive the moment with destiny pals when they saw you had it. Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded. We saw parts of the cosmodrome that were locked away. DLC. But already on the disc. Then year 2 arrived. And it started to feel like the best parts of the game were slowly being removed. We were told by Bungie that we were playing the game wrong. They had perks on guns, and when we used them effectively, all within the realms of the game, we were told we were using them wrong. Then we started to feel the affects of nerfing. Guns which we had worked so hard to get, became useless. The variety of weapons available was still big, but nerfs forced players to use very few. auto rifles started to fade, our game was being directed by the requests of the supplementary PvP aspect of the game. Updates came that meant previous content we paid for, was made useless. Game modes that are supposed to encourage team work in pve were forgotten. You aren't allowed raid matchmaking but, we shall matchmake you a pvp session with 11 people from all over the world resulting in a terrible experience. We won't matchmake nightfall, because you might get someone who is bad. That's better than no matchmaking right. Then, we got told previous gen was holding back vault space. Then, luke Smith tells us we are playing his game wrong, but we're going to throw money at the screen anyway. And there's way more to kingsfall. 0,4% auto rifle. What's VOG again? Who is Crota? Trials further toxicated the game. Bungie based game updates on trials. YouTube streamers. The community was ignored. The game grew towards trials, bungie pandered to this, pve got a few more stabs in the back. Lag switching. Bungie didn't seem fussed. We became iron Lords, and we were happy for a bit. That mountaintop. That raid. But it fizzled. More nerfs. Friends list didn't show Destiny as much. The last gen vault space limitations seemed a lie. It didn't increase when last gen wasn't included. Shotguns. Matador. Heavy ammo. Special ammo. Then Age of Triumph. Bungie thank us for participating in a 3 year beta, and begrudgingly make year 1 relevant again with some new year 2, but on their terms. Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead. Destiny was failed a lot on petty little stuff, stuff that folk meddled with, that was in reality, doing ok. And there wasn't more to kingsfall. If Destiny 2 can avoid the blindingly obvious mistakes that happened over the last 3 years, they could have a fantastic game in the making." Edit: Thanks for all the replies guardians! Edit 2: Whoa this is trending. Never been up here before, and it wasn't even my own words lol Edit 3: Number 1 trending. Wow. Thanks for everyone who liked and commented! Edit 4: Thank you all for the amazing posts! I'm glad people know how good this game could be. How good it should be. UPDATE! NEW WORDS BY BOOBEL!! "Thanks for highlighting my post. The fact that so many other players are in agreement does give credit to what I said. I expected people to say I was wrong etc, however we are entitled to our opinions. Maybe these are the people who forget that the game was never sold as being a pvp game. They clearly told us it was a pve game, with optional pvp. We also were told that a day one weapon would be relevant to whatever direction the game took. They aggravated people by completely doing a u turn on this, leaving many stuck at 170. If people feel it necessary to repost what I said, this to me just gives further evidence we agree. It's then funny to note that people said my observations of Y1 is the result of rosetinting, and I was wrong. I'm that wrong, that they are making raids relevant again, bringing back older weapons. They also have made AR better again, after the pvp nerds rendered them useless. It is also funny that people are assuming I'm wholly praising year 1, when I simply listed, in time order, things that I remembered from the top of my head. All of the points I made, weren't borne from negativity. They actually happened. So if you choose to focus on one aspect of my comments, rather than the whole post, you'll fail to see I simply pointed out what was done incorrectly, or things that were done that resulted in a poor experience. I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed." Edit 5: OVER 500 UPVOTES! Dang, is this a record or something? Someone has to know. Edit 6: Over 600 upvotes. Dang Edit 7: 700 UPVOTES BABY!

I hope to god we don't have to pray to RNGesus to get the Vex again in VOG, or to get the Cruz in Crota's End again. I only ever got 1 Crux. But I remember, one week in Year 1, a Mythoclast dropped...on all...3...characters.

                        • In all seriousness, this post sums it up. Nostalgia aside, it is what it is. I hope like the rest of that D2 is better. From a consumer standpoint, I'm not encouraged.

Great job explaining how Destiny has earned its reputation. Bringing elemental primaries back would have been a very big deal. A way to show fans they have learned from their mistakes. But they had to take all the fun out of it and make them exotic which will have the exact same effect removing them had.

                        • I would love for them to un-nerf everything. Bring it all back to what it was originally when it was introduced, but at the same light level. Similar to what they did in HoW. Bring back re-rolling. Bring back legendary elemental primaries. Bring back the how the Mythoclast used to be. How wolf pack rounds used to be. How white nail used to be. How ice breaker used to be. BRING BACK POCKET INFINITY!

                            • Day one player here. Year one sucked unless you were in the top 2% of players who had time to put in 30-50 hours of play time a week with a dedicated clan/raid group. Destiny, as a whole, is a much better and rewarding experience now than it was back then. Don't confuse nostalgia for quality. It's like remembering only the good times with an abusive/toxic ex and thinking "I wonder why we broke up?" and you go to get back with them cause you didn't learn your lesson and everything sucks again and you go "Oh yeah..." only to repeat the cycle again and again cause the sex was good but that's about the only thing cause everything else is a soul sucking life draining cesspit so finally get a gun and... *ahem* Not that I know anything about that. Purely hypothetical. 🙄

                                • I didn't know about Destiny until after the game dropped. I didn't know about all the "if you see it, you can go there" and other stuff people were complaining about when I picked the game up. I do know when I picked the game up Bungie said that Destiny was going to be a 10 yr adventure where you can make your warrior and continue playing. I was also under the impression that as they added things to the game that they would actually be additions, not addition by subtraction. I also thought that all the weapons we collected would remain with us, they did but yr1 weapons were made useless. I also realized as I started playing the game that Bungie sorta forces you to play PvP. I thought this game was going to be PvE heavy game, but as time went on I can see that Bungie was really going in the other direction. Constant nerfs to PvP weapons destroyed some weapons we used in PvE, taking away that feeling of having a truly exotic or special weapon. Started with auto rifles and I pretty sure the messed with every weapon and class. Oh, I wasn't too happy about dropping PS3 and Xbox360 on the last dlc. That was downright assine!! Couldn't wait to to drop those consoles for Destiny 2? Didn't add that much to RoI to justify that shitty move {{ahhh, vault space??} Anyways, I don't hate Destiny. I had a lot of fun playiing it, but it's very clear that this game was one giant Beta. It's time for Bungie to use all of this imformation that they collected from their beta and make the game that they orignally planned. After 3 yrs of following this game, the one thing I take away from this is Bungie is a bit shifty and don't always follow through on things. I don't want to flat out call them liars, but I DO NOT trust anything they say. You almost have to wait and play the game to find out they exaggerate on things. I really hope they can improve on this in the future or eventually it's going to turn a lot of gamers off with their attitudes and short comings. Here's to Destiny 2....hope Bungie can get it right!!!

I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed."
I'm a beta player and love this game. Or at least did until the last patch. Through all of the updates and patches over the last few yrs I've, no we've, learned to adapt and relearn metas, game play and strategies throughout the game. PvE became boring, and we clung onto PvP so we can keep playing this game. As far as I'm concerned the last patch ruined even that. The patch ruined even that which I was grabbing onto to keep playing this game. I was a daily Destiny gamer, even up to about 3wks ago. I tried to adapt to this meta, and I love side arms but it's just too limiting. For me the game is ruined. My favorite weapons have become mediocre and my special weapons are useless. My hope is like everyone else's....hopefully destiny 2 will be year 1 destiny and then some.

                                  • Listen, I'm as anti-modern-BNG as it gets. They are a dishonest company, filled with employees who clearly don't even play their own game. They cater to casuals, and have thus removed all sense of reward and challenge from this game. They base all their sandbox decisions on PvP. They clearly hate fun. But this post is just the same pointless outcry that I've seen dozens of times already. You can say that year 1 (and IMO, the first half of year 2) were amaze-balls and the greatest era ever. You can say how much you wanna go back to that. You can say whatever you want about it. But, there comes a point you have to admit it's pointless. BNG have said that this is the last update we will see in D1, so why cry out for a return to Y1? You know it won't happen. Do something worth the thumb pain. Hell, just make another post calling BNG out on all the lies they've fed us throughout the years. Maybe BNG will see it and decide "ya know what? It's not right to tell our players one thing than do another. Let's stop doing things we say we won't do, and let's start doing things we say we will do". • Well this is one side of the argument... scanning over this thread I see a lot of back and forth... pretty much leads me to believe what you have formed here is an opinion... one that can't be right or wrong, however Bungie also seems to have made their opinion... so in saying all that, adjust or play something else.
