There is no best sparrow. I switch it up constantly and get first most of the time in my races.
I had a few problems in my first few races but it turned out to be my controller. Once I switched that, number one all day.

Happened to me as well - my old controller won't let my Sparrow run at full speed - I think the switches are starting to die. My new controller - as you said, first place all day long.
