Destiny matchmaking is a pretty heated issue right now. After analyzing how matchmaking works according to the TWAB, I came up with a suggestion that is kind of a compromise between those who like the amount of SBMM currently in Destiny and those who want complete CBMM.
In this post, I'm going to assume you understand the points laid out in the TWAB. If you are struggling, I have that all laid out along with my matchmaking suggestion in a video for you.
My Matchmaking Suggestion:
Rather than opening up your connection pool and letting connection suffer when Destiny can't find you enough players, Destiny will open up the skill range pool until it is large enough that it finds you enough players in the initial pool of good connections.
This way it's not just random connection based matchmaking, but you will always have good connections. You will sometimes dominate the opposition, and sometimes you will face opponents much better than you, but there will always be an initial slant towards SBMM.
Let me know what you think? I'd love to hear your opinions.
