Theory of vex time travel limitations.
this is my first attempt at a lore post...
So everybody that has played destiny essentially knows the vex are capable of time travel, but then why haven't they gone back to the past to kill us? It's because they didn't exist in that time period... The vex came from a portal that Crota created in his ascendant realm, the vex then started their rapid transgressions upon the solar system once they were able to exist in this dimension. You may now be wondering, how does this matter? It's because the vex only travel through time, not through other dimensions. Because of this the vex cannot travel to a point where they did not even exist yet. But then how do they teleport to places? Well they don't teleport in the traditional sense, they skip through time to a place that they have been or will be at in another timeline. The vex teleports that create the "fog" are from another timeline where the vex were already there. Then how do the portals work? Well they include the timeline "jumps" but they work like a wireless network where once they go into a portal they can be instantly teleported to another portal, like an email between two computers. TL:DR The vex didn't kill us in the past because they did not exist in the past, the vex jump through time not space, and the portals work like emails between two computers.

  • The vex have existed for billions of years, they dont erase us because they cant predict the outcome of removing paracausal beings, if they removed us in the past, who wouldve saved them from the taken in the future?

  • They only have the power to manipulate time and timeline in the vault of glass. Outside of it they have a slight teleportation ability like many of the enemies in destiny and the prediction of the future is just calculations and simulations being run in an infinite number of ways and differentiations at an incredible speed. They know what you're going to do before you do 99% of the time. The vault of glass is their connection to the darkness and the power it gives thus allowing them to learn how to manipulate time within the vault and try to find a timeline or variation of ours in which they beat us.

  • They can only time travel in the vault. And also with the "telling the future" thing. They don't. They merely predict it with extreme accuracy.

  • The Vex have been in our dimension for years darling, they came in when crota let them in, and that was thousands if not millions of years ago

    • What about the structures on venus being millions of years old?

    • I think the explanation is a bit more simple than that (not that anything involving time travel is simple) I believe it's because of the way alternate time streams work. As shown by the Stranger grimoires, there are many timelines, most of which we lose in. So my theory is that the Vex didn't enter our timeline until Crota made a connection with their networks (although they will still be built in our timeline at some point) and that every time we defeat them in our timeline, they learn from it and defeat us in other timelines

What about Vex structures such as the Vault of Glass predating humanity by billions of years? How could they have built it if your theory is correct? (Not trying to sound rude just asking).

    • This is a very interesting theory. Good evidence, solid central idea, logical...bump!
