Wrath of the Machine is the Example of What A Raid Should Be
I didn't think it could be done. I really didn't. But in my mind, Wrath of the Machine has surpassed the Vault of Glass to become the best raid (at least when comparing normal modes).
Both Vault and Wrath:
• Don't place all the pressure on one person like Crota's End
• Don't place the pressure on everyone to perform at all times like King's Fall
• Require large amounts of movement unlike King's Fall
• Have interesting fights
• Have good loot drops
• Making a mistake doesn't doom the team
• Turning the raid inside out looking for secrets
What Wrath does that Vault doesn't:
• Requires a good amount of communication
• Less able to be cheesed
• Less glitchy
• Better secrets
• All subclasses are viable for strategies for at least one part
• More exotics viable in the raid
• All major sections give loot
• Amazing soundtrack
• Raid exotic isn't a random drop
• Raid armor really helps complete raid
• Better loot system
[b]Note:[/b] Wrath's shortness both helps and hurts it. By being so short, it opens it up to a bigger population and helps make being sherpa easier (thank god), but some also feel that that takes away from the experience.
What Vault does that Wrath doesn't:
• Able to help a raid team in patrol
• Created a sense of discovery every time I run through it (at least for me)
• More interesting Relic
• Fatebringer
• Nostalgia
It might still be the honeymoon phase, but I think that Wrath of the Machine is an A+ example of a raid. Bungie figured out how to capture the feel of the Vault again, and that makes me incredibly hopeful for future raids.

Wrath of the Machine is a superb raid. I especially like the mechanics at the end that involve getting cannons and matching them to their servitors. But I still like Vault of Glass the most, simply because I love the whole time travel theme it has.

I don't think WotM is the best raid, but i do think it ranks very, very close with VoG. VoG just has that special memory in my heart.

[u]My vog experience summed up in a bullet pointed list:[/u] *spend 30 minutes trying to open the door to the vault cause people kept dying *get mad when I lose my sparrow on te way to templar's well *try to do confluxes *get mad at confluxes and leave the team, finding a team at oracles *do oracles by sitting on top with everyone using icebreaker *spam grenades at Templar to push him off *open the exotic chest of disappointment *huddle together on top of a rock with my fireteam as we wait for the gorgons to pass *get mad at the noob who the Horton spots, only to get spotted myself next time *wait at the end of the jumping puzzle for the people who don't know how to jump *fill gatekeeper with gjallarhorns and easily win *chuck grenades at atheon's feet until he "tripped" *get really mad on how my teammate got [i]another [/i]vision of confluence yet I still didn't have one --- Vault of Glass was a great raid, and was expansive and had good loot and was fun and so on, but all the cheeses ruined it for me because I never got to grow those first triumph stories that I did with WotM. Yes, I was naive back then, and if I could go back and not cheese everything I would. I just never made any notable memories with VoG, and although I enjoyed it, I can't seem to wind the wonderful feeling of nostalgia that surrounds VoG for most destiny veterans, and because of that, i have to pick WotM.

13 RepliesI never liked VoG. I always felt VoG was a good first effort, but the worst raid. Overall, it seemed like there was a progression in quality as Bungie released each raid.

Wrath of the machine is the worse raid in the game. Jump puzzles with only two boss battles and all the enemies are Emo shanks

7 RepliesLol i like how many people selected VoG, following the band wagon. Lets be honest for a sec guys, excluding nostalgia and the insane weapons from it, it isnt the best raid. Fair enough the play area was huge and there was many secrets and blah blah blah But come on, only 2 bossies, oracles are boring af, gorgons is piss easy with the cheese route every team uses. There was no story behind the raid, none. We were going into a raid and just killing someone because we were told. Ive been playing since beta, so dont try hit me with the "Year 1 was the best year in destiny" bullshit. Yeah its pretty funny to look back on all the glitches and cheeses that Year 1 was FULL OF. But this isnt anything special and is just poor developing. Dont get me wrong, Vault Of Glass is amazing and is my 2nd favourite raid( behind kings fall with its seperate bosses, great backstory and generally hard difficulty) but if you get your head out of the nostalgia and look at it properly, youll maybe understand.

I'm loving Wrath just as much as Vault! I can't pick a favorite between the two, they're both great!

I still have to give it to VoG...Nothing will compare to the first time stepping into it and making the journey thru till the very end. But as for WoTM.....Bravo. This raid gave me nostalgic feelings from the VoG and i just love it. The whole thing is just beautiful. It really shows what happens when you drop legacy consoles. And not to mention i didn't have to see another F****n hive...ugly bastards. It also just give me some what of a sense that this game is headed in the right direction...sorta.

I was originally going to pick VOG for nostalgia but when I read your reasoning for why WOTM is better I decided to choose that instead.

Even though the vault of glass exotic was a random drop imo it was the best raid exotic. That plus all the openness and mystery makes it my favorite raid.

Which is best I cannot answer as I have not played all the raids but wrath of the machine is extremely fun. Its the first time I've done a raid asap although that might be because I feel the need to complete the book

I think this is a really well thought out post. It lays out good points logically without being inflammatory to anyone who might disagree with the assessment of the OP. So my question is... Is this the Bungie forums? All kidding aside, good post. And I think a previous poster is correct. I think my initial reaction to say that VoG is better has a lot to do with nostalgia.

VoG and WoTM are awesome and very enjoyable. One or two bad players will still allow you to complete it. King's fall was very good but is fairly harder to do. It's good that this raid exists to put raiding in general in a certain perspective. Crota's End is not much of a raid but a lot of fun to mess around with and an easy way to get that flawless raider achievement.
