Wrath of the Machine is the Example of What A Raid Should Be

Vault of Glass is the best

I didn't think it could be done. I really didn't. But in my mind, Wrath of the Machine has surpassed the Vault of Glass to become the best raid (at least when comparing normal modes). Both Vault and Wrath: • Don't place all the pressure on one person like Crota's End • Don't place the pressure on everyone to perform at all times like King's Fall • Require large amounts of movement unlike King's Fall • Have interesting fights • Have good loot drops • Making a mistake doesn't doom the team • Turning the raid inside out looking for secrets What Wrath does that Vault doesn't: • Requires a good amount of communication • Less able to be cheesed • Less glitchy • Better secrets • All subclasses are viable for strategies for at least one part • More exotics viable in the raid • All major sections give loot • Amazing soundtrack • Raid exotic isn't a random drop • Raid armor really helps complete raid • Better loot system [b]Note:[/b] Wrath's shortness both helps and hurts it. By being so short, it opens it up to a bigger population and helps make being sherpa easier (thank god), but some also feel that that takes away from the experience. What Vault does that Wrath doesn't: • Able to help a raid team in patrol • Created a sense of discovery every time I run through it (at least for me) • More interesting Relic • Fatebringer • Nostalgia It might still be the honeymoon phase, but I think that Wrath of the Machine is an A+ example of a raid. Bungie figured out how to capture the feel of the Vault again, and that makes me incredibly hopeful for future raids.

    • VoG is still better than Wrath. BUT. Wrath was extremely refreshing and not as mechanic driven as Kings Fall. VoG still has better weapons, and better "cosmetic" looking armor.

      • I don't think there will ever be another raid raid with as good a guns as vog. It's was just an awesome raid all in all.

        • I still think VoG has the edge over WotM. VoG to me is a little more filled out, and I think it is the best blend of fun and work. Never liked CE or KF, always felt like a necessity to do it, enjoyment soon wore off. I know it's early days for WotM, but I can still see myself having fun doing it much like VoG in the future. VoG/WotM weapons and armour are also far more appealing to me. So I wanna play them more. I hated running CE/KF to look like crap and have to use crappy looking weapons (until 1 for 1 infusion came in). I [i]needed[/i] to do them to progress, never [i]wanted[/i] to.

        • Vault of Glass is [u]still[/u] the gold standard of what a raid and a Destiny raid should be. That said, Wrath of the Machine is a hair behind VoG, and a great deal better than King's Fall.

          • The main thing I think that sets VoG and WotM is how the encounters differ in pacing from one another. Crotas end featured a running (slowly) section, followed by a slow progression across a gap then just 2 damage checks. Kings fall featured an interesting starting with splitting the group in 2 while enforcing a time limit to create the sense of urgency, the rest fell flat as it simply became all damage checks up until oryx which was just a movement based puzzle with some shooting, while it was different I gotta say, not actually fighting the boss made it feel a bit less satisfying. VoG on the other hand featured a similar startup to kings fall minus the time limit, had a sense of exploration (both in the descent and in the gorgons maze), packed wave defence style objectives in the confluxes, along with time pressure created by the oracles and mechanics completely unique to the raid, doubling up on everything for the final fight by splitting the team, having a time limiting factor and having you actually fight the boss as a damage check. In many ways Wrath of the machine does things similar to VoG, in terms of how it varies each encounter and while I definately agree that it does things very well, I dont think it quite tops VoG for me, granted nostalgia plays a big role in how I feel about VoG but if it were brought up to year 3 with the rest of them I would like to see how many people would struggle since it feels a lot more involved than both Crotas end and Kings fall while being different from Wrath of the machine. Also not knowing what the last boss would be definately helped VoG and WotM stand out, since you already knew the other 2.

              • One mistake didn't doom the team during normal kings fall either. This has two fairly long multi phase boss fights. The thing this does have is the ability to clutch it out whereas with Kings fall once you dropped to 3 people you had to wipe

                    -They both have a great mysterious feel to them. -VoG seemed so much harder compared to WotM. -WotM has the most mechanics of any fight in destiny to date but once the mechanics are down it seems too easy. No revives and a couple new wrinkles could possibly change this in hard mode though.

                    • WotM is perfect got me, but that doesn't mean it is for everyone. Although I loved vog, I found the first bits just went on and on and on. I only enjoyed it from the Templar and onwards. Kings fall was good, but too much standing around in fights + long jumping puzzle bits. I love jumping puzzles and don't mind the reset upon falling, but didn't like having to wait for ships etczzzzz I'm actually one of the few ppl that liked Crota as it was quick and I just had great fun playing it. Soloing aside, I had lots of fun with a fireteam too. I've only got a handful of WotM completions as I'm now on holiday, but I do like the action. Can't wait for hard mode!

                    • Hilarious. This community will bitch and moan about raids "not being hard enough". Same people on lfg first week raid is out: "Lf5M. 370+. Must have watched videos prior." I dare you guys to run raids blind. Not one of you would finish any of them in less than 5 or 6 hours.
