Except that Fireborn is actually so clutch I got sick of constantly needing to run it in Year 1?
It's value is more situational in PvP, perhaps, but it's better than a Gjallarhorn in PvE sometimes.

Make the damage only apply to guardians then.

It's still not needed? The ability is very much fine. Used at the right time, it's incredibly potent. But you have to be able to, you know, figure out when that time is? That's part of the skill of using it effectively, and it's perfectly fine for it to require that. If you'd rather not have that barrier, you can always set Radiant Skin. Besides, this would just tread over Landfall's territory.
