I think it's cool to see fans of a game series be inspired and create a game of their own, but the thing is that Halo is a copyrighted property. I realize you claim it is legal, but the risk is quite high that you game might get taken down by Microsoft if they feel it may hurt their IP. I do support the idea you guys have, but when you look at what happened to Galaxy in turmoil, doesn't it worry you? I think it would be better to make a game inspired by halo, but not necessarily directly based on the series. If you made the game it's own thing, similar to what is happening with Galaxy in turmoil now, you would have a higher likelihood of actually having the game released. I understand you guys are hard at work with installation 0, but for all the effort you are putting into the game, couldn't you have created a game that is completely yours, with no possibility of loosing the ability to work on the game?

Microsoft has VERY lax copyright rules. If you don't monetize content without their permission, you're free to do what you want with their assets and IP.

Didn't Galaxy in Turmoil use the assets from other Star Wars games?

Those were placeholder assets that frontwire was using while they were working on their own. They confirmed this on their website and stuff. The finished game was planned to not use any assets from other Star Wars games.

Edited by Legend To None: 8/22/2016 3:59:39 AMAw okay, just checking. Yet Galaxy in Turmoil was re-creating a game that was cancelled before by the developers. As Installation 01 is not copying a storyline or specific game. The goal is to bring a classic Halo Experience to PC, Linux, and Mac. Besides when Galaxy in Turmoil got cancelled they were able to speak with EA and discuss their game. Which hopefully we can see an affect of that discussion. For the sake of gaming. As for Installation 01, I guess the best we can do is keep up the work. This has been discussed many times with the team though (I haven't discussed it myself, however). The concern and information is much appreciated. I have seen some people also advise just creating our very own game. The perk of creating a game inspired by Halo is that the project brings together skilled artists and coders. Forms a team that shares a passion for Halo while giving the team a goal or style of gaming to shoot for.
