Just how are you treating your fellow Guardians?

Honor is highly lacking in our society. What people don't realize is this... Honor is something that is freely given AND SHOULD BE given. Respect is earned. In other words... They are two separate things. As a follower of Jesus I try to honor people above myself. Not perfect at it but I do my best. I do this, even in video games. Because honor affects everyone, in ANY situation. If I treat you fairly and with honor then you are not likely to be angry and dishonorable back in my face. Most of the time. But a lot of people; especially those that don't believe as I do (or those who have just never been taught about honor), just treat people however they feel like. This is especially a problem in video games online. Since there are generally no repercussions for people's actions online, people don't care about other people. Only themselves. In real life you wouldn't just run up to someone and knock them down and try to teabag them for a laugh or to see what kind of reaction you can get. That's just ridiculous. You could face some serious problems if you tried to do this to people in real life. I'd have an Extremely hard time remembering to act how Jesus would act if someone tried to do this to me in real life. Chances are I'd knock the person out whenever I got up. lol. It's just ridiculous that people tend to act out whenever it's online. "Oh you can't just jump through the screen and destroy me so I'm gonna treat you like utter crap! HA HA HA!" If you tried to act like this in some 3rd world country in real life you would probably get shot. When online, acting this way may not have Physical ramifications but no one seems to realize how much we are hurting each other and ourselves. When you decide to act this way you change your mindset. You basically are subtly teaching yourself how to mistreat others. And it Will leach it's way into your real life situations. And it also affects the people you do it to as well. These people may get angry and feel offended and it'll leak into how they feel about things and make them slowly feel like everyone is out to mistreat them and hurt them. Eventually the person doing the hurting and thinking it's funny and okay may run into someone that has had this stuff happen to them a lot before. Maybe say... when looking for a job. And the victim is the person that has too hire this person that does this kind of thing. He may pick up on your bad attitude or your weird basically "jerk" mannerisms and say, "I'm not going to hire This jerk." And see... results from dishonoring each other pouring into real life. What most people don't realize is how most thoughts, feelings, and actions we do affects ourselves in our minds and hearts and changes how other people think and feel about us and life in general as well. And God knows every little thing we think, say, and do. Honor is a lost virtue. It's not taught by hardly anyone in our society. Heck it's not remembered much even by people that follow Jesus like me anymore. But my pastor said it best back when my church had a series of messages about Honor. He said, "Whatever/whoever you honor comes closer to you and is more open too you in life." More opportunity. More doors open. More happiness. He also said, "Whatever/whoever you dishonor moves away from you in life." Less opportunity. Doors closing or staying closed. Less happiness for everyone involved, especially yourself. He said this for us Followers but this involves pretty much every aspect of life for everyone. If we could all just honor each other; even in a video game, above ourselves, we wouldn't be having this discussion in this World. And Destiny would be a much more fun place to play.

  • Too much for me to waver through however I get your drift, I think the anonymity aswell as lack of consequence in a Virtual space Causes players to cars less about randoms and sometimes even people they know.

Look man... No need for the religious aspect. No hate, I respect you for your beliefs. I have my own. With that being said, you can't compare a videogame to real life. I don't t-bag. I may wave at the end of the match. That's about it. There is a diffference in being humble, compared to being a jackass. I spent 10 years in the military, and saw numerous friends pass. Do I believe in God? No, I don't. Do I believe in a higher power? Yes. But, if you actually read the bible... God gave us our own will. This is not a knock on you. Everyone has their own beliefs. I was raised in a Cherokee and Norwegian household. They are both polytheistic cultures. But, they also believe in a higher power. To be honest, some of the worst people I have ever met are bible thumpers, but I know more about the bible than they do. People can claim to be Christian all day, but have no clue what the bible says. My point is... There is no reason for the religious preference. My name literally means Truly exalted by the lord. Sometimes, I believe it. We make our own choices. I have no issues with peoples' beliefs. Muslims? They're not all bad. Point is... Open up your world. Do what you feel is right. I've given money to strangers, and I'm not religious. Btw, this wasn't a knock on you. Just broaden your horizons. The most "religious" people can be oppresive, and asshats. I'm not saying you are. Every religion has fanatics. I respect you for your beliefs.

    • People are savage AF. About 80% of the people that post here are cry babies seeking nerfs, complaining about others and then trolling when nobody gives them the attention they apparently didn't get when being raised. Parents these days are raising a bunch of trophy for losing babies and I fear for the world.

        • Those of us 1st year players remember, destiny was nothing but awesome players...all helping each other and very pleasant. Theyd stop and help u when assumed u needed it. Even in beginning of taken king, players would help out at court of oryx or whenever see a long warrior trying to beat a taken boss. Now, all d-bags from COD and shit games like that came over and those are the immature, unhelpful, raging, teabagging teenie bopper morons that u see now... and court of oryx...theyll use their runes, with ur help get what they want, then disappear, leaving u to do it alone. All selffish fools. Its sad...destiny was amazing game once upon a time.

          • I figured this is about tbagging and I got half way through and I was correct. I will clap if it was a good play and I refrain from tbagging but if it is instigated it will happen. I witnessed this last night on Clash during Exodus Blue. A Hunter threw his swarm grenade after missing two shots with Thorn at a Warlock who was evading a Warlock spamming fusions with Radiance then activated his Blade Dance, finish him off, and proceeded to tbag. My Golden Gun was charged and I smoked him and the Radiant Warlock with a third opponent around the corner. Myself and two other teammates tbagged that Blade Dancers ghost as we all observed what happened. The Hunter left the game after a trip mine stick and a throwing knife to the face. When I main my Striker I do not tbag if I get a triple kill with FOH or outplay someone using Meta weapons, I cheer to myself and then go on my way. There is a level of decency missing in pvp, everyone is such a bada$$ on campus in shooters it's quite boring and obnoxious. Get on my level? Please! Get off your butt, go outside and acquire a real skill...button mashing will get you nowhere. I play this game to spend time with my younger siblings while I am on the road and enjoy a game together. I seldom set foot in pvp due to either their cries and nerfs affecting my gunplay mechanics across the endgame content or not using Meta/ short TTK weapons netting you lower scores, tbagging, or hate mail because you out performed them with an inferior weapon.

I wish you had left all mention of religion out of this post. This is an excellent post & once you put any religious belief in, it immediately gets dismissed by most people & the point is lost. I liked what you said, but I disagree on a couple of points. Honor is something a person has or does not have. It is a personal thing that encompasses your beliefs, your mindset & your actions. You have to choose to have honor, but by showing someone respect, you ARE honoring that person. Why do people in the military show each other respect? It is taught to them. You know that if you do not show your Drill Sergeant respect, he will beat the hell out of you. Maybe not with his fists, but with a grueling workout for sure. Online, we do not need to fear each other, so we become bold. The bullied can now return the favor. The meek can be the strong. The strong no longer have to fear that person who is stronger. We are faceless, unreal beings. You can't catch me, nana-nana boo-boo. All you can do is lead by example. When you see things you do not like, correct them in yourself & hope others will follow suit. Do not let the temptation to follow the easy road win & when it does, forgive yourself & try harder to be the person you want to be.

                  • Just to clarify... Jesus is an "opinion". Yours, not mine. I am just curious why you are playing a game that is all about "murder" and "genocide", and then try to come off all "pious" suggesting that you are holding yourself to some sort of higher standard. I am pretty sure one of your god's commandments is "thou shall not kill". How do you justify even playing this game in the first place? If you are going to try to tell me its "just a game", then your position has lost all of its credibility.

You shouldn't bring topic of religion here. You're gonna get into arguments that will waste yours and a lot of people's time. Game is made for everyone to play (yeah I know rated T for teens). Don't use your religion to judge their actions in the game... it's just a video game. If there's one thing to understand, there's a lot of young people with huge ego or what I call e-peen who play videogames.

                                    • I also call Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior! Nice to hear someone advocating basic kindness. A little decency and class go a LONG way towards creating a positive gaming experience. I remember when I was still below level 18, patrolling the Cosmodrome. I was at The Divide (one of my favorite destinations), and while looking for spinmetal or something, some guy shows up and kills me with his sparrow! Assuming it was simply a freak accident, I continued my wandering. That is, until I was mown down a SECOND time. "Ah. A troll" I thought, and promptly left the immediate vicinity. I figured I was fine, but the guy shows up a bit later while I'm aiming and punches me, so I punch him back. He does the evil scheme emote, and I just leave. I wasn't angry, just mildly annoyed. The dude didn't send me a friend request or anything, just a level 40 harassing new players. Sometimes I'll shoot other players, but that's to try to notify them that I found a chest or some planetary materials we can share. You should add me on PS3. My gamertag is the same as my username. Should our schedules align, I'd enjoy playing with ya!

Your comparisons aren't apples to apples. I'll just say "Cultural norms" because I feel online gaming is a culture. But anyway I agree with the undertone and respect you not being afraid to talk about God since many ppl flame on anything about God in a forum nowadays.
