Questions from a Returning Player

I've recently come back to Destiny after stopping for a bit toward the end October, and I've got some questions for you fine Guardians: 1. I'd like to get my hands on a Sleeper Simulant, but I have not once seen any of the DVALIN Fusion Rifles drop. I'm at Gunsmith Rank 3 and I try to spread my time between patrols and strikes, so is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is the quest inactive? 2. After doing both Heroic Vanguard Strikes and normal Vanguard Strikes, I see virtually no point to doing the Heroic ones since the rewards are virtually identical (excluding the 10 Marks), except the Heroic Strikes are long slogs. Am I crazy? Is there a marked benefit to doing the Heroic strikes over the normal ones? 3. Without doing raids, should I expect to cap out at Light Level 295-300? It's extremely rare for me to find gear that's above Light 295, so I get the impression I'm toward the end of the non-raid/non-PVP progression spectrum. Thanks, Guardians. Thardians.

  • Nightfall and Weekly Crucible can drop items up to 310. (Usually ghosts). Raid, Iron Banner and Trials can drop items up to 320.

1.)The fusion rifle cores are random drops on each planet. Once you get all 4 of them you will have to wait until a mission called the 1rst firewall pops up. I believe it appears on the 7th of each month. Afterwards complete the remaining steps of the quest (I would YouTube it because it's a lot to explain). 2.) heroic strikes drop more engrams at the end and have higher chances of dropping legendaries than the normal strikes do. If you're at a lower light level I would suggest sticking with normal strikes for now until you get some better gear because of how long it can take. But once you reach a high enough light the heroics are just as quick. 3.) yes you are reaching near the end without doing some kind of endgame activity (trials, IB, raid)
